Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the third week of August 2020.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  2600 fat cattle
11500 lambs
 1700 mutton and
   700 store cattle

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a mixed yarding of cattle this week, with most categories represented, however I don’t think there was as many heavy kill cattle this week.  The market in general was firm for most categories, with yearling feeder steers and heifers 8 to 15 cents dearer with quality definitely a help, with the older feeder steers firm, with young light restocker cattle still in strong demand.

Light vealer steers to restockers 422 to 530 cents, with vealer heifers also to the restockers on the lighter end 436 to 506 cents, with suitable kill drafts over 300kg in short supply 410 to 434 cents.

Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 386 to 415 cents, with fresh restocker drafts 416 to 506 cents – up to 300kg, with heavier drafts 440 to 447 cents and mainly being Angus drafts.  Heavier drafts over 400kg to feedlotters 370 to 425 cents, with kill drafts 370 to 426 cents.

Yearling heifers under 400kg to feedlotters 380 to 398 cents generally and up to 406 cents, with some lighter drafts 400 to 420 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg to kill 365 to 421 cents.

Into export sales, with heavy feeder steers over 500kg 366 to 390 cents generally and up to 400 cents, with kill drafts 350 to 380 cents on the younger drafts, with the older drafts 345 to 365 cents.

Onto cows which were 4 to 6 cents cheaper – but still strong, boner cows 268 to 280 cents, medium weights 276 to 290 cents with heavy high yielding cows 280 to 300 cents generally and topping at 305 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly locally for Elwyn & Rachel Perry at Geurie, who sold 4 tooth Brahman heifers in fresh condition, off the crop for 307 cents, they weighed 430kg and came back at $1325.

At Gulargambone for Steven & Amanda Spinks, who sold Angus cross bullocks for 379 cents, they weighed 510kg and these top steers returned $1940.

To Narromine for the Moody Family, who sold Limo cross steers, off the crop to the trade butchers for 423 cents, they weighed 450kg to come back at $1795.

At Nyngan for John & Mary Burley, who sold fresh Angus vealer heifers for 415 cents, they weighed 290kg to the kill orders and they came back at $1150.

While the Dewhurst Family, sold 2 tooth Angus cross steers to the feedlotters for 380 cents, they weighed 440kg and returned $1325.
