Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of August 2020.  Tallied numbers this week included –
2900 fat cattle
8600 lambs and
 
2300 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a mixed yarding with most cattle being in good condition with a fair selection of finished cattle.  All buyers were operating in a dearer market.

Young kill cattle were firm with prime steers yearlings making 394 – 446 cents, while the prime heifers yearlings topped at 434 cents.  Feeder steers and heifers were both 10 cents dearer.  The steer portion brought 389 - 430c/kg while the feeder heifers made 376 - 400c/kg.  Limited number of young restocker calves penned but sold to strong demand with steer calves topping at 550 cents and heifers at 450 cents.  

Prime grown steers were 10 cents dearer selling from 320 – 400 cents while grown heifers had no change bringing 323 - 390c/kg.  All Cows were firm to 5 cents dearer with the medium 2 & 3 score cows brining 265 – 292 cents while the prime heavy weights made 281 – 315 cents finishing the day averaging 299c/kg. 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to the Hermidale district for the Dewhurst family off ‘Elmsley’, who sold well covered Angus cross cows for 309c/kg and weighing 490kg coming back at over $1515/head.

Just down the road to Nyngan for John & Mary Burley off ‘Woodlands Station’, who sold Angus cross steers weighing 283kg for 442c/kg coming back at $1254.

Now to Warren for the Cosgrove family off ‘Lauriston’, who sold Angus/Hereford cross steers making 415c/kg and weighing 401kg bringing $1666/head.

In Gulargambone now for the Spinks Family off ‘Brinawa’, who Angus cross steers that made 395c/kg and they weighed 583kg making them worth $2304.

Lastly to Wellington for the Jeffreson family off ‘Bell River’ who sold heavy Angus steers that weighed 615kg and brought 390c/kg making $2398/head.  

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a plainer quality yarding then what has been penned the last few weeks.  But still some good pens of heavy weight lambs yarder alongside some good suckers.  


Trade lambs were $10 to $15 dearer making from $122 to $163 to average between 650 - 690c/kg.  

Trade suckers were $4 to $7 dearer selling from $136 - $156 where they averaged 660 - 720c/kg.  

Heavy weight lambs were $9 to $14 dearer with the 24-30kg selling between $150 and $191, while the over 30kg lambs brought $176 to $200. 

Heavy weight suckers made $157 to $161. 

Merino lambs were $10 to $13 dearer with the trade weights selling from $118 to $152 while the heavy weights topped at $160. 

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

Firstly to Tottenham for the Leith & Kay Adam off ‘Berridale’, who sold heavy Aussie White lambs in a 4 score condition for $184.

Now to Dubbo for the Tudor family, who sold heavy crossbred lambs with an inch skin in a 3 & 4 score condition for $189.  

Just down the highway to Geurie for the Whillock family off ‘Maxland’, who sold heavy 2nd cross suckers in a 3 score condition for $161.

And in the Wellington district for Matt & Kylie Whale off ‘Glenroy’, who sold fresh 2nd cross suckers lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition for $150.

 
Now in the mutton pens, where it was a good quality yarding where all grades were $10 to $15 dearer.  


Medium weight Merino ewes made from $100 to $140 while heavy weight ewes sold for $150 to $180. 

Merino wethers sold from $110-$198, with mutton averaging between 560 - 600c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -

Firstly to Warren for the Cosgrove family off ‘Lauriston’, who sold Dohne ewes with a 1/2 inch skin in a 4 score condition for $175.

And lastly to Wellington for Marcus & Jo Clarke ‘Mehruda’, who sold heavy Merino wethers in a 3 & 4 score condition for $142.
