Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of September. Tallied numbers this week included -

1900 fat cattle
18000 lambs and
5000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly and with between 20 and 70mm of rain throughout much of the supply area, numbers were back considerably. All the usual buyers were in attendance and operating in a dearer market.

Young cattle to the trade were well supplied and prices lifted 5 cents as prime vealers sold to a top of 582c/kg. Prime steer yearlings, 470 to 568c/kg with the heifer portion selling from 440 to 580c/kg. Feeder steers were up 11 cents selling from 470 to 596c/kg and the heifer portion remained firm to sell from 434 to 576c/kg. Young cattle to the restocker remain strong with young steers selling to 758c/kg and young heifers topping at 664c/kg.

Grown steers and heifers were up to 15 cents stronger. Prime steers sold from 416 to 550c/kg and the heifer portion sold from 420 to 500c/kg. Cows again sold to strong demand selling 7 cents better this week with the better D3/4 cows selling from 380 to 423c/kgs. The best heavy bull reached a top of 348c/kgs.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -

Locally for Craig & Kerry Walters of “Plain Creek” at Wongarbon, who sold Angus steers to the feedlot for 565 cents, weighing 543kg to return $3069.

Josh and Brianna Birks of “Yarrow” at Mendooran, sold Angus heifers to the restocker for 580 cents, weighing 200kg to return $1160.

Blair & Sophia Josephs of “Wandeen” at Narromine, sold Shorthorn steers to the feeder orders for 585 cents, weighing 357kg to return $2092.

To Nyngan now for the Burley Family of “Woodlands Station”, who sold Hereford cows for 410 cents, weighing 615kg to come back at $2521.

Jack & Dione Carter at “Innaminna”, sold Speckle Park bullocks for 455 cents, weighing an impressive 785kg to return $3573.

And lastly for the Manns Family of “Gidgee” at Cobar, who sold a magnificent line of Santa Gertrudis bullocks for 440 cents, weighing a huge 790kg to return $3476.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where a good selection of new season, trade and heavy weight lambs were on offer as were finished Merino and crossbred lambs. All usual buyers were present and operating.

Trade weight new season lambs were $9 dearer selling from $180 to $262 and the heavy new season lambs sold from $246 to $296. Trade weight old lambs lifted $14 to sell from $173 to $258. Heavy weight lambs gained $10 to range from $250 to $310, while extra heavy lambs sold from $313 to $342. Merino lambs were $8 stronger as the trade weights sold from $172 to $220, while the heavy weights reached a top of $269. The best heavy hoggets reached $255.

Locally for Paul & Carmel Quinn of “Caroo”, who sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition, well presented for $240.

The Walters Family of “Plain Creek” at Wongarbon sold crossbred lambs in a 3 and 4 score condition to the export orders for $305.

The Whillock family of “Maxland” at Geurie, sold 2nd cross suckers in a 3 score condition for $244.

Ben and Cloe Lawson of “Monte Carlo” at Stuart Town, sold crossbred restocker lambs in a 3 score condition, unshorn for $177.

The Deshon Family of “Rocklee” at Wellington, sold Aussie White suckers in a 3 score condition, to the domestic kill for $205.

The Weber family of “Kia-ora” at Tottenham, sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $230.

The Stendell Family of “Ben Avon” at Brewarrina, sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $197.

To Hermidale now for The Dewhurst Family of “Elmsley”, who sold heavy White Suffolk cross lambs in a 4 score condition and an inch skin for $300.

And lastly for Jon & Helen Matchett of “Budgery”, who sold White Suffolk cross lambs in a 3 score condition for $240.

Into the mutton pens now, where a mixed quality yarding was on offer.
Light ewes sold from $80 to $123
Medium weight ewes sold from $140 to $188
Heavy weight ewes sold from $196 to $270

Light wethers sold from $130 to $166
Medium weight wethers sold from $170 to $200
Heavy wethers sold from $210 to $250.

Just a quick quote this week for Viv and Suzie White of “Three Rivers” at Molong, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with a 2 inch skin for $214.
