Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the fourth week of September, 2021.  Tallied numbers included –

  4400 fat cattle
20000 lambs and
 7500 mutton

Into the cattle pens where it was another larger number yarded this week.  The quality overall was very good, with a good selection of well finished steers and heifers regardless of breed.  It was another very strong market with most categories fully firm with this weeks highlight being any feeder cattle, whether it be a steer or heifer seeing very strong competition.

Vealer steers in short supply and mainly to restockers 538-790 cents and mainly on the lighter end, vealer heifers also to restockers 555-650 cents.

Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 538-591 cents for British drafts.  Heavier drafts over 400kg also to feedlotters 470-586 cents, with a top end up to 596 cents for the Angus drafts.  Kill drafts saw most sales between 480-524 cents.

Yearling heifers under 400kg were in shorter supply with drafts to kill 459-526 cents, with feeder drafts 400-450 for crossbred drafts or 500-578 cents for the British drafts.  Heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 416-568 cents, with kill drafts 447-558 cents.

Into export sales where there was some excellent drafts of young bullocks seeing most sales between 430-474 cents, with older bullocks seeing sales between 419-445 cents.

Export heifers up to 500kg 390-476 cents, with the top end being younger, with heavier drafts over 500kg 386-475 cents, with the top end being 4 and 6 teeth.

Cows were slightly cheaper this week on the back of a very strong market in previous weeks with medium weight cows 290-368 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 330-414 cents  generally and up to 420 cents.

Carter Lindsay and Weber had the following results for their clients -

Firstly, locally for Ellwyn and Rachel Perry off “Allandale” at Geurie ,who sold forward Brahman heifers to feeders for 443 cents, weighing 345kg and came back at $1540.

The Thompson family off “Gowan Green” who sold angus calves to restockers 300kg, 702c for $2120.

To Tooraweenah for Graham and Annette Markey off “Lancelot”, who sold prime Charolais cross steers to kill for 440 cents, they weighed 610kg and these top steers came back at $2690.

For the Harvey family who sold prime Brahman cows for 400 cents, they weighed 500kg coming back at $2000.

The McWhirter family off “Springfield”, sold prime Angus steers to the kill for 465 cents, weighing 695kg and these top steers came back at $3230.

To Trangie for Stu and Jenna Denston off “Mieguyah”, who sold well bred Angus heifers that weighed 420kg for 546 cents, to feedlotters and these top heifers made $2305.

At Warren, the Weston family off “Nighill Gully” who sold forward yearling Angus heifers that weighed 466kg for 528 cents and these top heifers came back at $2460.

At Nyngan for Jim and Abigail McLaughlin, who sold Hereford cross heifers with their 2 teeth to the kill orders weighing 670kg for 436 cents and these top heifers came back at $2920.

For John and Mary Burley off “Woodlands Station” who sold prime Santa cross vealer steers straight off the cow 568 cents and weighed 360kg to return $2045.

While at Girilambone for the Gibson family off “Wilgadale” who sold fresh Hereford cross steers to feedlotters for 580 cents, weighing 360kg to come back at $2095.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where there was a similar number yarded this week with the market slightly cheaper for the crossbreds and up to $10 cheaper on the Merino’s but bearing in mind we are coming off the back of some of the strongest markets I have seen in Dubbo.

Into suckers firstly, with lighter restocker drafts $170-182.  Trade weights to kill $188-218 with export weights $217-$237 generally and topping at $240, with some super heavies as good as you would want to see estimated to weigh in excess of 26kg dressed making up to $284.

To older crossbred sales, light kill types up to 16kg dressed $120-$140
up to 18kg dressed $138-$150
light trade $150-$180
medium trade $172-$224
heavy trade or light export $200-$242
with export weights up to 30kg dressed $230-$265 generally and up to $302
with super heavies over 30kg dressed $300-$309.

Merino sales up to 16kg dressed $125-$144
up to 18kg dressed on $136-$158
light trade $150-$180
medium trade $154-$200
heavy trade $156-$225
with export weights $218-$245
with some extra heavies over 30kg dressed making up to $260.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

Matthew and Kylie Whale off “Glenroy” at Wellington, sold 2nd  cross suckers to backgrounders, unshorn for $181.

Paul and Carmel Quinn, sold shorn Dorper export weight lambs in a 4 score condition and these top lambs made $250.

For Ian and Ilka Grattan, who sold heavy trade weight Dorper lambs in a three score condition and these top lambs made $180.

At Mendooran for Matt and Rachel Adams, who sold shorn 1st cross lambs in a 3 score condition for $200.

At Albert for Kim O’Neill off “Boganelle”, who sold export weight Merino lambs with 6 week skin in a 3 score condition $240.

To the Marra for Richard and Dixie Stendell off “Ben Avon”, who sold large frame Merino lambs with a 5 week skin to the light exporters for $225.

While for Simon and Kelly Earl, who sold large framed Merino lambs with a ½ inch skin making $225.

 

Into the mutton pens where there were some good drafts yarded with medium weights up to $10 cheaper with the heavy weights only just firm.

Boner ewes $90-$120
medium weight ewes $122-$171 for mainly Merino’s
export weights $144-$210 for crossbred or $168-$228 for Merino’s
with super heavies over 30kg dressed $209-$233 for crossbred or $213-$235 for Merino’s.

To wethers medium weights $130-$155 and mainly Merino’s
export weights $173-$203 for crossbred or $174-$226 for Merino’s
with heavy weights over 30kg dressed up to $226 for Merino’s or $203 for crossbred.

Just a quick quote for Skimmer and Roz George who sold large framed Merino ewes with a 1/4 inch skin, in a 3 score condition to the exporters and these top ewes made $150.

While for the Betts family from Cobar, who sold large framed ewes with a 6 week skin, in a 3 score condition and these top ewes made $204.

Just a quick mention that the Geurie Golden Collar working dog auction is running on AuctionsPlus until 2pm this Saturday the 25th of September, with some quality dogs on offer.
