Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of October 2021. With the public holiday on Monday there was no sheep, so tallied numbers this week included –
4100 fat cattle
Into the cattle pens, where there was a good quality yarding on offer with good lines of young cattle for both processors and feeders alongside a great run of well finished grown cattle. With a large percentage of Bos Indicus cross cattle throughout the yarding in prime condition that saw all buyers there and operating.
Young kill cattle were 5 cents cheaper, with prime vealers selling to a top of 580c/kg. Prime steer yearlings brought 480 – 576 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 460 - 564c/kg. Feeder steers and feeder heifers were 10-15 cents dearer with feeder steers selling from 420 - 597c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 460 - 580c/kg. Young steers to the restock sold to a top of 788 cents, while the heifers topped at 740c/kg.
Grown steers and grown heifers were cheaper, with prime grown steers selling from 410 - 490c/kg, while prime grown heifers brought 415 - 470c/kg. Cows saw no change, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 310 - 394c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 370 - 412c/kg finishing the day averaging 399c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Coonamble for the Harvey family off “Glenhaven”, who sold well bred Angus feeder steers that made 576 cents, they weighed in at 487kg coming back at $2811.
Over to Nyngan for the Burley family off “Woodlands Station”, who sold well finished Angus cows weighing 680kg bringing 396 cents, making $2692.
Down the road to Warren now for the McLaughlin family off “Merryanbone North”, who sold well finished Hereford cross heifers for 445 cents, weighing 629kg coming back at $2800.
To Tooraweenah now for Cherie & Julie McWhirter off “Carinya”, who sold extra heavy milk and 2 tooth Angus steers that weighed 706kg, they sold for 458 cents, making $3234.
In the Wongarbon district for the Kelly family off “Hillview”, who sold heavy weight Angus steers that weighed 628kg making 480 cents, coming back at over $3015.
Down the highway to Geurie for the Perry family off “Allandale”, who sold a nice line of Brahman heifers in fresh condition, off the crop that weighed 388kg and made 430 cents, coming back at over $1673.
Lastly to Goolma for the Holland family off “Avondale”, who sold heavy well finished Hereford cows for 411 cents, weighing up at 690kg making just under $2837.
Just a quick reminder that Dubbo will be holding a store cattle sale next Friday the 15th of October. If you are going to attend the sale you will need to have a Covid test with a negative result within 7 days of the sale, and need to contact your agent to be put on the entry list.
