Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of January 2022. Tallied numbers this week included –
1100 fat cattle
7300 lambs and
2500 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a better yarding of cattle with a good quality of young cattle for the feeders and processors along with a few good pens of grown steers and heifers. Once again there was only a limited supply of cows penned.
Young kill cattle were firm with prime vealers selling to a top of 580c/kg. Prime yearlings brought 500 – 556 cents. Feeder steers and heifers were 10 – 15 cents dearer, with feeder steers selling from 510 - 600c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 464 - 586c/kg. Young restockers were dearer selling to a top of 800c/kg for steers and 735c/kg for heifers.
Grown steers and heifers also gained 15 cents, with the prime grown steers bringing 440 – 476c/kg, while the grown heifers sold from 416 – 444c/kg. Cows were 5 cents dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 280 - 356c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 340 - 390c/kg to average around 368c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Narromine for Judy Donnelly off “Bulga”, who sold well finished 2 tooth Angus and Angus cross steers for 456 cents and weighed in at 632kg coming back at $2884.
Locally now at Dubbo for the Maroulis family, who sold a nice line of well finished Hereford heifers that weighed 555kg, bringing 442 cents and making $2454.
Lastly to Wellington for the Gratton family off “Pine Park”, who sold well bred Angus feeder steers that made 594 cents, they weighed 494kg bringing $2935.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a mixed quality yarding with a selection of both trade and heavy lambs throughout with a large percentage of Dorpers yarded. Trade weight lambs were $5 dearer with suckers selling for $165 - $206 averaging around 830 – 890 cents. Trade weight old lambs made $152 - $220. Heavy weight lambs were $7 dearer with old lambs over 24kgs selling from $215 - $276 to average between 845 - 875c/kg. Merinos were dearer because of quality with trade weights making from $155 -$177.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Firstly to Hermidale for the Matchett family off “Budgery”, who sold freshly shorn crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition for $232.
At Trangie now for Kim O’Neil off “Boganelle”, who sold Merino wether lambs in a 2 score condition, with an inch skin for $150.
To Geurie now for the Whillock family off “Maxland”, who sold well bred crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $252.
Lastly to Stuart Town for the Lawson family off “Monte Carlo”, who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition for $190.
Into the mutton pens now, where most grades were represented in a good quality yarding that saw all grades $15 - $20 dearer. Merino ewes selling from $100 - $235 and the crossbred ewes made $156 - $220. Merino wethers sold from $120 - $165 while the crossbred wethers topped at $210.
Just a couple of quick quotes this week -
Firstly to Albert for Bob & Robin Smart off “Tullarook”, who sold well bred Merino ewes with an October skin, in a 3 & 4 score condition to the local exporters for $173.
And lastly to Wongarbon for Craig & Kerry Walters off “Plain Creek”, who sold heavy Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with a November skin to the northern exporters for $190.
