Fat Cattle Report
Good morning this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of January, 2022. Tallied numbers this week included –
800 fat cattle
8000 lambs and
7000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly where a plain quality yarding was on offer with only a few lots of young cattle suitable for the processor and limited young cattle for the feedloters. Grown steers and heifers were in short supply as were cows.
Prime steer yearlings sold from 440 to 570 cents, while prime heifer yearlings sold from 480c to 598c/kg. Feeder steers sold from 489 to 606 cents, with the feeder heifers making from 485 to 598 cents. Young restocker cattle were limited with young steers selling to 775 cents and young heifers reaching 650 cents.
Grown steers sold from 356 to 430c/kg, while the grown heifers sold from 378 to 470c/kg. The better D3/4 cows sold to a top of 375 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -
Locally for Stan Noonan of ‘Retford Park’, who sold Brahman cross heifers to the restocker for 568 cents, weighing 312kg to come back at $1775.
Phillip & Debra Bell of ‘Keonbyrne’ at Mendooran, sold Angus Steers for 638 cents, they weighed 347kg to return $2217.
Terry & Marie Johnson at Eumungerie, sold Hereford cross steers for 520 cents, weighing 452kg to return $2353.
The Robinson family of ‘Ellerslie’ at Bourke, sold Angus steers for 610 cents, weighing 415kg to return $2532
And lastly for Sally Edwards of the Bundi Road at Wandoan, who sold Brahman steers for 466 cents, they weighed 489kg to come back at $2280.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a pretty good yarding. There was a good selection of trade weights, large numbers of White Dorpers and limited Merino and heavy weights.
Trade lambs were $5 dearer, selling from $155 to $217. Heavy lambs remained firm on last week with those estimated to be 27kg dress weight and better sold from $220 to $263. Merino lambs were $5 dearer as the trades sold from $148 to $177 and the best heavy hoggets topped at $200.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Locally for Andrew O’Brien of ‘Glenhaven’, who sold 2nd cross lambs in a 4 score condition, with an inch skin for a sale topping $263.
The Whillock family of ‘Maxland’ at Geurie, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $255.
Kevin & Louise Bell of ‘Wallah’ at Mendooran, sold Dorper cross lambs in a 2 and 3 score condition, to the restockers for $166.
And lastly for The Broughton Family of ‘Jamea’ at Trangie, who sold Dorset cross lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $215.
Into the mutton pens now, where the market was cheaper across all grades.
Light ewes sold from $70 to $120
Medium weight ewes sold from $128 to $149
Heavy ewes sold from $153 to $180
Light wethers sold from $96 to $122
Medium weight wethers sold from $130 to $150
Heavy weight wethers sold from $158 to $178.
Just a quick quote this week for the McFetridge Family of ‘Tathra’ at Collie, who sold crossbred ewes in a 3 score condition, with a 1 ½ inch skin for $155.
