Fat Cattle Report
This is John Lindsay taking a look at the weekly livestock reports out of Dubbo for the first week of February, 2022. Tallied number this week included –
2500 fat cattle
12000 lambs
7000 mutton and
1000 store cattle
Into the cattle pens firstly, were there was a larger number on offer on what was a good yarding of cattle, with most categories well represented with the exception of weaners were in much shorter supply. The market in general was fully firm for all feeder cattle, with any kill cattle slightly dearer on what is still a very strong market.
Vealer steers in shorter supply and mainly to restockers 580 to 750 cents, with the heifer portion also to restockers 552 to 695 cents. Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 510 to 658 cents, with restocker drafts 518 to 700 cents. Heavier drafts over 400kg to kill 466 to 518 cents – in shorter supply, while feeder drafts saw most sales between 430 and 592 cents. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed 440 to 581 cents, with suitable kill drafts in short supply 524 to 600 cents. Heavier drafts over 400kg suitable to kill 420 to 494 cents, with feeder drafts 398 to 540 cents generally and up to 560 cents for the fresher drafts.
Into export sales, with steers firstly, which were in short supply and mainly all to processors with the biggest majority having 2 and 4 teeth – seeing sales between 430 and 465 cents. Cows enjoyed dearer trends of between 10 and 15 cents, with medium weight cows 350 to 364 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 350 and 380 and this week topping at 397 cents. With the best bull this week being a Euro cross bull making up to 340 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Locally for Randall & Kylie Carlow, who sold Angus feeder heifers for 522 cents, they weighed 445kg and these top heifers came back at $2320.
At Mendooran for the Crothers Family of “Grandchester”, who sold Limousin steers to feedlotters for 582 cents, they weighed 340kg and these top steers came back at $1970.
At Nyngan for John & Mary Burley of “Woodlands Station”, who sold fresh Angus weaner steers to backgrounders for 656 cents, they weighed 350kg and these top little steers came back at $2280.
At Warren for The McKay Family of “Winnabri”, who sold clean Shorthorn cows for 391 cents, they weighed 750kg and these top cows came back at $2935.
The Weston Family of “Baledmund” at Nymagee, who sold Rangemaster cross cows in prime condition for 397 cents, they weighed 715kg and these cows rang the bell today for $2835.
While for an Eastern client, yearling Angus cross steers to feedlotters the made 592 cents, they weighed 390kg and these top young steers came back at $2325.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Across to the lamb pens, where there was a large number on offer, due to last week’s stronger market. It was a very good yarding of lambs, unfortunately the market was $10 to $15 cheaper for most categories, with the exception of trade weights and Merino lambs which were fully firm.
Into young lambs or suckers firstly, with restocker drafts $104 to $134 but only being young and light
With trade weights in shorter supply seeing sales between $173 and $185.
Into older crossbred sales, light kill types up to 20kg dressed $148 to $166
Medium trade $175 to $190 generally and up to $205 for the better shaped 2nd cross types
Heavy trade or light export $193 to $222
With export weights $205 to $229
With drafts up to 30kg dressed $230 to $250
With super heavy weights over 30kg dressed $252 to $265
To Merino sales, light kill types up to 16kg dressed $100 to $133
Trade weights $144 to $154
With Heavy trade $192 to $206
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Locally for Sam & Penny Deshon of “Rocklee” at Wellington, who sold trade weight Australian White lambs, in a rock hard 3 score condition and these lambs made $210.
Paul & Carmel Quinn of “Caroo” at Dubbo, sold export weight White Dorper lambs in a 4 score condition and these top lambs made $230.
Rod & Clare Pilon of “Chloe” at Dubbo, who sold super heavy export weight 2nd cross lambs, in a 4 score condition with a ½ inch skin and these top lambs made $252.
At Baradine for the Horder Family of “Cartref”, who sold light export Australian White lambs in a 3 score condition and these top lambs made $205.
To Coonamble for The Goldsmith Family, who sold 1st cross Dorset lambs to feedlotters, with a ¼ inch skin and well grown and these top lambs made $177.
At Warren for The McKay Family of “Winnabri”, who sold export weight 1st cross lambs with a ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition and these top lambs made $213.
To Nyngan for The George Family of “The Corners”, who sold trade weight 1st cross lambs, in a well rounded 3 score condition with a ½ inch skin and they made $200.
Jon & Helen Matchett of “Budgery”, sold trade weight 2nd cross lambs with an 8 week skin for $199.
While at Bourke for Ben & Liarne Mannix of ‘Gumbooka”, who sold export weight Dorper lambs in a rock hard 4 score condition and these top lambs made $220.
Into the mutton pens now, where it was a good yarding of mutton with the market only just managing to stay firm, but mainly $4 to $8 cheaper particularly on the medium weights.
Light boner ewes $88 to $102
Boner ewes $77 to $117 to restockers or $108 to $135 to kill and all Merino’s
Medium weights $120 to $140 for short skins, or $150 to $185 with the help of a big skin for Merino’s, with the crossbred portion $125 to $158
With export weight crossbred ewes $150 to $192, with the Merino portion $166 to $220
With super heavies this week, and mainly being all crossbreds $192 to $215
Medium weight wethers $150 to $168
Export weights $178 to $193 for Merino’s and up to $186 for crossbreds
With super heavy drafts over 30kg dressed – like the ewes mainly all crossbred drafts $190 to $260.
