Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of April, 2021.  Tallied numbers this week included –

 2010 fat cattle
11950 lambs and
  
5260 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a good quality yarding with lines to suit both the feed and processor orders, along with quality lines to suit the backgrounder and restocker market, alongside a fair selection of cows in what was mostly an unchanged market.

 

Young kill cattle were firm with prime vealers selling from 410 - 486c/kg.  Prime steer yearlings brought 370 – 484 cents.  Feeders saw no change with the feeder steers selling from 370 - 484c/kg while the feeder heifers made 396 - 475c/kg.  Young cattle to restock were dearer with steer weaners selling from 480 - 592c/kg while young restocker heifers sold to a top of 514c/kg.  


Grown steers and heifers were 5 to 10 cents cheaper, with prime steers selling from 330 – 388 cents, while prime grown heifers brought 326 - 380c/kg.  Cows were firm, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 220 - 286c/kg while the prime heavy weights made 290 - 320c/kg, finishing the day averaging 310c/kg.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to Hungerford for Mick & Michaela Fisher off “Kilberoo”, who sold well finished Charolais cross steers weighing 651kg making 330c/kg, to come back at $2150.

Now to Nyngan for John & Mary Burley off ‘Woodlands Station’, who sold a nice line of Angus steers for 470c/kg weighing in at 423kg making $1991.

Over to Albert for the O’Neill Family off “Nellady”, who sold well bred Hereford steers that weighed 595kg and brought 370c/kg coming back at over $2201.

Down the road to Geurie for the Whillock Family off “Maxland”, who sold fresh well bred Angus steers that weighed 360kg and sold for 480c/kg to make $1732.

And lastly to Yeoval for the Brown family off “Fairview”, who sold heavy Santa cows that made 314c/kg, these cows weighed 738kg bringing $2319. 

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a plainer quality yarding with a very large percentage of secondary lambs that had lacked finish.  Still some very good lambs penned throughout the yarding of both heavy weights and trades.  


Trade lambs were $5 - $10 cheaper with quality being a factor selling from $150 - $202 to average around 800 - 820c/kg.  Heavy weight lambs were firm to $5 cheaper with the lambs 24kg - 30kg bringing $185 - $240 averaging about 760 - 780c/kg, and the lambs over 30kgs sold from $244 - $262.  Merino lambs were $10 cheaper with trade weight lambs selling from $135 - $193.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Firstly for the Goldsmith Family off “Urungie” at Coonamble, who sold well bred crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $213.

To Dubbo now for Paul & Carmel Quinn who sold, fresh Dorper lambs in a 4 score condition to the local exporter for $211.

Down the highway to Wongarbon for the O’Connor family off “Warren Downs” who sold extra heavy crossbred lambs with an inch skin for $261.

At Geurie and the Whillock family off “Maxland”, who sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition to the exporters for $240.

And lastly to the Wellington district for Sam & Penny Deshon off “Rocklee”, who sold White Dorper wether lambs in fresh condition for $203.

 

Into the mutton pens now, where it was a good yarding where ewes were $5 stronger and the wether portion up to $10 dearer.  Merino ewes made from $110 - $240, while crossbred ewes sold for $160 - $290.  Merino wethers sold from $132 - $240.  Most of the sheep averaged between 660 - 720c/kg.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -

Firstly to Tottenham for the Weber family off “Kia-ora”, who sold a well bred line of heavy Merino ewes with a 2 inch skin to the local exporter for $185.

To Wellington for Paul Vernon off “Gunners Dam”, who sold heavy Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $194.

And Lastly in the same district for Scott & Jane Johnston off “Springburn”, who sold extra heavy Dorper ewes in a 5 score condition for $230.
