Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of April.
There was no sheep and lamb market due to the Easter break this week.
So let’s get straight into the cattle pens where numbers lifted for a yarding of 2316 head. On offer was a good selection of young cattle to suit the feeders and processors along with good numbers of well finished grown cattle. We are starting to see less and less plainer and secondary types obviously due to abundant feed throughout much of the supply area.
Young cattle to the trade were dearer as prime vealers sold to 486c/kg. Prime steer yearlings sold from 380 to 464c/kg while the prime heifer yearlings sold a little better than the steers, selling from 376 to 478c/kg. Feeder cattle were considerably dearer, with the steer portion selling from 402 to 507c/kg and the heifers ranging from 396 to 467c/kg. Young cattle to the restockers looked to be 40 cents better as little cattle weighing 180 - 240kgs sold to a top of 720 cents for the steers and 642 cents for heifers.
Grown steers and heifers were 10 cents dearer. The steer portion ranged from 366 to 395c/kg while the heifers sold from 338 to 390c/kg. Cows were 5 cents better this week. Prime heavy weight cows sold from 299 to 323c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 315 cents.
