Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of September 2021. Tallied numbers this week included –
4000 fat cattle
19100 lambs and
2900 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a good quality yarding on offer, with good lines of young cattle for both processors and feeders, alongside a fair selection of well finished grown cattle. A large percentage of Bos Indicus cross cattle throughout the yarding that saw all buyers there and operating.
Young kill cattle were 5 cents cheaper with prime vealers selling to a top of 550c/kg. Prime steer yearlings brought 460 – 552 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 446 - 546c/kg. Feeder steers and feeder heifers were 5 cents cheaper with feeder steers selling from 443 - 571c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 416 - 548c/kg.
Young steers to the restock sold from 464 - 820c/kg while the heifer portion made 520 - 784c/kg. Grown steers and grown heifers were 10 cents dearer, with prime grown steers selling from 410 - 510c/kg while prime grown heifers brought 380 - 469c/kg. Cows were 10 – 15 cents cheaper, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 228 - 375c/kg while the prime heavy weights made 360 - 422c/kg finishing the day averaging 395c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Coonamble for the Harvey family of “Glenhaven”, who sold well finished Brahman cows that made 400c/kg and weighed in at 513kg coming back at $2055.
Over to Nyngan for the Burley family of “Woodlands Station”, who sold well bred Angus heifers straight off the cow that weighed 400kg bringing 531c/kg making $2124.
Down the road to Warren now for the McKay family of “Winnabri”, who sold heavy Shorthorn feeder steers for 498c/kg weighing 513kg coming back at $2557.
In the Tottenham district for the Hewett family of “Hillview”, who sold well bred Charolais cows that weighed 865kg making 410c/kg coming back at over $3546.
Lastly to Dubbo for the Koerstz family of “Warrie”, who sold well grown milk and 2 tooth Angus steers for 495c/kg weighing up at 575kg making just under $2800.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a very good quality yarding with some large runs of heavy weight lambs alongside only a small amount of neat trade weights. There were also a good number of suckers penned and Merino lambs penned alongside.
Trade weight new season lambs were $10-$15 cheaper selling for $155 - $ 240 to average between 915c - 960c/kg. Trade old lambs were $10 cheaper with quality being a factor selling from $153 - $245. Heavy weight lambs also lost $10 with lambs over 24kg selling from $235 - $321 to average 910c - 980c/kg. Heavy weight new season lambs sold for $232 - $265. Merino lambs were also cheaper by $10 - $14 with trade weights making from $153 - $218 and the heavy weight Merino’s over 24kg brought $212 - $266.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Firstly to Warialda for the Reardon family of “Duntulm”, who sold well bred Merino wether lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with a 2 inch skin for $255.
To Coolabah now for the Edwards family of “Tubbavilla”, who sold freshly shorn heavy trade lambs for $260.
Across to Tottenham for the Plummer family of “Trigoona”, who sold well finished Merino lambs the in a 3 score condition with a half inch skin for $210.
Down to Geurie now for the Whillock Family of “Maxlands”, who sold 2nd cross trade weight suckers in a 3 & 4 score condition to the domestic kill orders for $231.
Lastly to Wellington now for the Whale family off “Glenroy”, who sold young 2nd cross suckers to the restock orders for $183.
Into the mutton pens now, where it was a mostly good quality yarding, which resulted in a strong market. Merino ewes sold from $100 - $237 and the crossbred ewes made $165 - $252. Merino wethers selling from $180 - $226, while extra heavy crossbred wethers topped at $268.

Quickly to Hermidale for the Matchett family of “Budgery”, who sold extra heavy crossbred wethers in a 4 & 5 score condition with an ½ inch skin, topping the mutton market at $268.
And at Nyngan for the Butler family of “Jambaroo”, who sold heavy Merino ewes with a 2 inch skin to the southern exporters for $167.
