Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of June 2021. Tallied numbers this week included –

  625 fat cattle
13500 lambs and
  
5000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a rain affected market, but despite that there was still a good quality of cattle on offer for both processors and feeders, along with only limited numbers of cows but in prime condition.

 Young kill cattle were firm with prime vealers sold from 450 - 503c/kg.  Prime steer yearlings brought 408 – 518 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 439 - 497c/kg. Feeder steers and the heavier feeder heifers gained 10 – 15 cents, with light feeder heifers firm to slightly cheaper.  Feeder steers selling from 370 - 492c/kg while the feeder heifers made 400 - 458c/kg.  

Grown steers and heifers were 5-10 cents cheaper, with prime grown steers selling from 367 - 411c/kg, while prime grown heifers brought 320 - 405c/kg.  Cows were 5 cents dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 265 - 297c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 310 - 330c/kg finishing the day averaging 317c/kg.

 Just a couple of quotes this week, firstly to the Warren district for cattle that had been on agistment, well finished Braham cross steers weighing 600kg making 367cents to return $2205.

 And to Coonamble for the Millner Family, who sold well bred Charolais cross heifers for 486 cents, weighing in at 458kg to come back at $2230.  On the same truck were some Santa cross cows that weighed 715kg and sold for 318 cents, coming back at over $2275.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a plainer quality yarding with a larger percentage of secondary type lambs, alongside a few pens of outstanding heavy weights and trades, with all buyers in attendance and operating.

Trade lambs were firm to $5 dearer with quality being a factor selling from $150 - $198 to average around 790c - 825c/kg.  Heavy weight lambs were fully firm with lambs 24kg - 30kg brought $189 - $233 averaging about 765 - 780c/kg, and the lambs over 30kgs sold from $226 - $262 to average 750c/kg. Merino lambs were up to $10 - $15 cheaper with trade weight lambs selling from $134 - $180.  Heavy weight Merino lambs sold from $190 - $229.

 Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Firstly to Hermidale for the Matchett family of “Budgery”, who sold well bred crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition off the board for $179.

To Walgett now for the Pocknell family off “Springvale Station”, who sold fresh and heavy Dorper cross lambs in a 4 score condition to the southern exporter for $175.

Down the road to Coonamble for the Fitzgerald family off “Carmel” who sold, extra heavy Aussie White lambs in a fresh condition for $183.

Lastly to the Baradine district for the Denis Todd off “Wheatfields”, who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $153.

 

Into the mutton pens now, where there was a fair yarding of sheep.  Light and medium weight sheep were $10 - $15 cheaper while the better heavy weight sheep were up to $30 cheaper.  Merino ewes sold from $106 - $208 and the crossbred ewes made $109 - $213. Merino wethers selling from $125 - $209, most of the sheep averaged between 580 - 630c/kg.

 Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -

Firstly to Cassilis for the Hegarty family off “Belvedere”, who sold a well bred line of Merino ewes with an inch skin to the local exporter for $140.

To Wongarbon now for Craig & Kerry Walters off “Plain Creek”, who sold heavy Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $180.

Lastly in the Girilambone district for the Gibson family off “Willgadale”, who sold heavy Merino ewes, straight off the board, in a 4 score condition for $188. 

 

Just a quick reminder that Dubbo will be holding a store cattle sale on Friday the 18th of June and there will be no prime sheep sale on this Monday the 14th of June because of the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
