Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of June.

Tallied numbers this week included -

1780 fat cattle
16000 lambs
5000 mutton and
1000 store cattle

Into the cattle pens firstly, and as the rain fell with up to 40mm in the supply area, the market was dearer across all grades. Some good runs of cows were on offer as well as a fair selection of young cattle to suit the trade. Feeder cattle were limited in supply.

Young cattle to the trade were 8 cents dearer with prime vealers selling to 500 cents. Prime steer yearlings sold from 410 to 490c/kg while prime heifer yearlings sold from 410 to 496c/kg. Feeder cattle remained firm as the steers reached a top of 466c/kg and the heifers sold to 462c/kg. Restockers again were very active with young/light steers selling to 682c/kg and the young/light heifers reached 590c/kg.

Grown steers and heifers were 9 cents better with the prime grown steers selling from 330 to 425c/kg, while the grown heifers sold from 360 to 414c/kg. Cows were dearer again this week as the better D3/4 cows sold from 290 to 318c/kg. The best heavy bull sold to a top of 315 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -

The Holland Family of “Avondale” at Goolma, sold Santa cross heifers for 478 cents, weighing 266kg to return $1273.

Fred Hall of “Breelong” at Gilgandra, sold Charolais cross steers for 522 cents, they weighed 300kg and came back at $1566.

Mark & Trudy Altus of “Wyndorah” at Coonamble, sold Charolais bullocks for 434 cents, weighing 545kg to return $2369.

For agistment cattle ex Nyngan, Charolais cross cows for 313 cents, weighing 557kg to return $1744.

And lastly for Millie Fisher of “Kilberoo” at Bourke, who sold heavy Angus bullocks for 355 cents, weighing 751kg to come back at $2668.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where once again good numbers of heavy weight lambs were on offer yet limited numbers of ideal trade weights.

Trade lambs finished firm to $4 cheaper selling from $145 to $200.  Heavy weight lambs sold from $188 to $228 while the extra heavy lambs sold from $229 to $265.  Merino lambs looked to have a few holes in the market, mainly on the trade weights which sold from $125 to $177 and the heavy weights selling from $184 to $220.  Lambs to the restockers remain strong and sold from $140 to $180.  The best heavy hoggets sold to a top of $226.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Ben Doherty of “Bundarra” at Tullamore sold heavy Merino lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with a half inch skin for $192.

Kerry Altus of “Milby” at Eumungerie, sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition and a half inch skin for $200.

The Whillock family of “Maxland” at Geurie, sold crossbred suckers, fresh and in a 3 score condition for $194.

Matt & Kylie Whale of “Glenroy” at Wellington, sold 2nd cross trade weight lambs in a 3 score condition for $180.

The White Family of “Three Rivers” at Molong, sold crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition to the heavy trades for $210.

Peter & Debbie Pearce of “Gollenfield” at Nyngan, sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition for $192.

And for The Davis Family of “Kahmoo” at Bourke, who sold heavy Dorper hoggets in a 3 score condition for $180.

Into the mutton pens now where all grades were represented in a dearer market.

Light ewes sold from $100 to $158
Medium weight ewes sold from $167 to $201
Heavy weight ewes sold from $208 to $260

Light wethers sold from $133 to $154
Medium weight wethers sold from $166 to $190
Heavy wethers sold from $195 to $243.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -

Paul Vernon of “Gunners Dam” at Wellington, sold Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for $235.

Jon & Helen Matchett of “Budgery Station” at Hermidale, sold heavy crossbred wethers in a 4 score condition, to the exporters for a sale topping $243.

And for The Dunn family of “Bundong Station” at Coolabah, who sold Heavy Merino ewes in a 4 score condition for $230.
