Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at only one livestock market this week being the lambs and sheep with not cattle sale due to the Easter long weekend.

Tallied numbers this week included –

9800 lambs and
2600 mutton

Into the lambs firstly, where it was a large number bearing in mind a rain affected market last week.  The market in general was fully firm for most categories, with export weight crossbred and Merino lambs $4 to $6 dearer.

Into older crossbred lambs, light kill types up to 18kg dressed $150 to $158
Light trade weights $155 to $190 and up to $198 for well rounded types
Medium trade $180 to $202
Heavy trade $186 to $215
Export weights $202 to $225
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $218 to $236 and topping at $258 estimated to be over 30kg dressed.

To Merino sales, which as mentioned were strong - Trade weights$145 to $168
Heavy trade $178 to $195
Light export $186 to $198
With some heavy weights up to 30kg dressed $227

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

The Horder Family of “Cartref” at Baradine, sold heavy trade weight Dorper lambs for $191.

The Stevens Family of “Belowrie” at Dubbo, sold light export Dohne lambs in a 3 score condition with a tidy ½ inch skin for $185.

While the Ward Family of “Thorndale” at Nyngan, sold light export weight Merino lambs with a ¼ inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $190.

To the mutton market now, which was very good and $5 to $8 dearer for all categories.

Boner ewes made from $108 to $123
Medium weights $130 to $165 for Merino’s or $137 to $176 for crossbreds
Export weights $170 to $223 for Merino’s or $168 to $193 for crossbreds or $205 to $220 for Dorper’s
With super heavies over 30kg dressed making from $213 to $272 for crossbreds, with Merino’s $202 to $213.

Reminder - LPA NVDs


From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.

A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.

New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.

As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
