Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports for the last week of January 2020.

Due to the Australia Day long weekend, there was no sheep and lamb sale on Monday.

Agents yarded 2500 fat cattle where there were some excellent grown steers and heifers along with good numbers of cows, with the majority of the yarding in prime condition.  Light restockers were limited in supply, with the market being dearer right across the board.

Feeder steers were well supplied and ranged from 298 to 340 cents – all dependent on breed and weight.  Feeder heifers sold from 275 to 315 cents.  Trade steers to the kill lifted 10 cents to range from 295 to 320 cents, while the heifer portion sold from 280 to 305 cents.

Heavy cattle saw increased competition this week, with the best pen of bullocks selling to a top of 321 cents, while grown heifers reached a top of 300 cents.  Cows saw the biggest gains – up 20 cents on last week in places.  Light weight plain cows sold from 160 to 200 cents, while the better finished D3/4 cows sold from 260 to 281 cents.  The best heavy bull sold to a top of 303 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Locally for Ray & Leonie Crook at Eumungerie, who sold a big Angus bull for 285 cents, weighing 1075kg to return $3063.

Heath Yeo of “Lambar” at Dubbo, sold Angus bullocks for 321 cents, weighing 586kg to return $1881.
