FAT CATTLE REPORT
Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh with the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of November, 2019. Tallied numbers this week –
2400 fat cattle,
6300 lambs and
13200 mutton
Into the cattle pens first where numbers dropped by 1400 to have the smallest yarding we have seen for some time. A mixed yarding with some good pens of well finished yearlings along with good numbers of plainer conditioned young cattle. All grades of cows were on offer as well as grown steers and heifers.
Young cattle to the trade were 6 cents cheaper. Prime yearling heifers sold from 235 to 284 cents, as the steer portion made from 273 to 290 cents. Feeder steers were dearer, up by 10 cents, selling from 240 to 312 cents, feeder heifers also saw a rise of 3 cents and sold from 233 to 282 cents. Restocker steers jumped 15 cents and sold from 238 to 318 cents, however the heifer portion were softer and sold from 181 to 268 cents.
Grown steers and heifers were cheaper, the heifer portion sold to a top of 279 cents, while the steers topped out at 289 cents. Cows were cheaper this week, down by 20 cents in places. The better D3/4 cows sold from 190 to 255 cents. The best heavy bull reached a top of 316 cents.

The Atkinson Family of “Wonga” at Yeoval, sold a magnificent line of Santa steers for 285 cents, they weighed 305kg to return $871.
To Dubbo The Clatworthy Family of “Mia Mia”, who sold Angus cows for 220 cents, they weighed 503kg to return $1100.
The Skinner Family of “Wembley Park”, sold Fresian cows for 190 cents, they weighed 619kg to return $1176.
Rod & Kay Crothers of “Grandchester” at Mendooran, sold Limousin heifers for 277 cents, they weighed 327kg to return $907.
Dennis & Tania Hall of “Mount Marion” at Binnaway, sold Devon heifers for 240 cents, they weighed 345kg to return $828.
To Narromine now, for Jeff & Kay Anderson of “Mallawa”, who sold Angus feeder steers for 311 cents, they weighed 366kg to return $1139.
Judy Donnelly of “Bulga”, sold young Angus steers for 274 cents, they weighed 290kg to return $795.
To Girilambone, for The Gibson Family of “Wilgadale”, who sold Santa cross cows for 217 cents, they weighed 465kg to return $1009.
The Elder Family of “Woorndoo”, sold Santa cross cows for 240 cents, they weighed 575kg to return $1381.
The Carlow Family from Gilgandra, sold Angus cows for 195 cents, they weighed 505kg to return $985.
Jack & Dione Carter of “Glencoe” at Cunnamulla, sold 6 tooth Speckle Park heifers for 270 cents, they weighed 547kg to return $1478.
And lastly for The Brown Family of “Nardoo Station” at Wanaaring, who sold Angus bulls for 253 cents, they weighed 715kg to return $1810.
FAT LAMB & SHEEP REPORT
Into the lamb pens now, where once again there were large numbers of very light young lambs suitable for the restockers with only limited numbers of well finished trade and heavy weights yarded.
Light weight lambs to the processor were $8 cheaper, selling from $80 to $126. Trade lambs remained firm with the new season lambs selling from $150 to $186. Trade weight old season lambs sold from $133 to $192. Heavy weight lambs were limited in supply and prices stayed firm from last week, selling from $195 to $255. Restocker lambs were $6 cheaper, with the better lambs selling from $84 to $136, while very young lambs sold from $48 to $76. Hoggets sold to a top of $190.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly, locally for Ben & Anne Kidd of “Kungie” , who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 and 4 score condition for $170.
The Toohey Family of “Fella Park”, sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition, with a ½ inch skin for $144.
John Blease of “Tanners Creek” at Tomingley, sold Dorper lambs in a 2 and 3 score condition, to the domestic kill for $124.
And for The Plummer Family of “Trigoona” at Tottenham, who sold Merino hoggets in a 3 and 4 score condition, with a 1 inch skin for $171.
Into the mutton pens now, where all grades were represented in a softer market.
Light ewes sold from $70 to $109
Medium weight ewes sold from $118 to $155
Heavy ewes sold from $168 to $202
Light wethers sold from $75 to $99
Medium weight wethers sold from $103 to $140
Heavy wethers sold from $150 to $200
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following mutton for their clients –
Brian Brazier of “Wombang” at Euchareena, sold Merino ewes in a 2 and 3 score condition, with a ½ inch skin for $138.
Carole Burns at Goolma sold crossbred ewes with a 1 inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $172.
The Toohey Family of Carara Road at Erudgere, sold crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $170.
The Walker Family of “Gillendoon” at Warren, sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with a 4 week skin for $150.
And for The Cook Family of “Glenidol” at Tottenham, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with a ½ inch skin for $166.
