Fat Cattle Report
Good morning everybody, this is John Lindsay taking a look at the cattle market only this week due to the Easter long weekend.
There was a total of 3800 fat cattle yarded with all categories represented and the market in general was firm for most categories, with cows up to 20 cents dearer and feeder cattle particularly the British Breds up to 15 cents dearer on what was a brighter market compared to two weeks ago.
Vealer steers to restockers saw most results between 360 and 470 cents, with the better British Bred drafts sneaking up towards 500 cents, with the heifer portion in short supply but seeing most sales between 290 and 330 cents and mainly to restockers. Feeder steers under 500kg to feedlotters 380 to 405 cents for the British and mainly Angus drafts, with the Bos Indicus types – also stronger and seeing sales between 290 and 325 cents. The heifer portion saw most sales between 290 and 375 cents, with a big chunk in that 350 to 360 cents bracket.
Into export sales, with export steers to kill seeing most sales between 306 and 354 cents, with the heifer portion 295 to 345 cents. As mentioned cows were definitely stronger, with boner cows 230 to 246 cents, medium weights 260 to 280 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seeing sales between 280 and 310 cents with some preg tested cows in very forward condition making up to 328 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Locally for Craig & Kerry Walters of “Plain Creek” at Wongarbon, who sold Angus steers to feedlotters for 405 cents, they weighed 425kg and these top steers came back at $1720.
For the Grattan Family of “Pine Park”, who also sold Angus steers to feedlotters that weighed 445kg for 408 cents and they came back at $1810.
To Warren now for The McLaughlin Family of “Merryanbone North”, who sold prime Angus cross cows for 306 cents, they weighed 670kg and they came back at $2050.
The McKay Family of “Winnabri”, sold heavy Shorthorn cows for 301 cents, they weighed 700kg and they came back at $2100.
To Tottenham for The Weber family of “Chelsea”, who sold Angus steers to feedlotters that weighed 410kg for 397 cents and they came back at $1640.
While for a northern vendor – fresh Brahman cross steers that had been agisting in Nyngan – 485kg for 323 cents and these forward steers came back at $1570.
