Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of March 2023. Tallied numbers this week included –
2900 fat cattle
12800 lambs and
11200 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a mixed quality yarding with some good numbers of vealers and yearlings to suit both the restockers and trade buyers. There were also cattle to suit the feeders alongside well grown steers and heifers.
Young kill cattle were 20 cents dearer with prime vealers topping at 408c/kg. Prime steer yearlings bringing 310 - 464c/kg and the prime yearling heifers made 327 - 396c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were 10 – 15 cents dearer, with feeder steers selling from 310 - 405c/kg while the feeder heifers made 266 - 352c/kg. Young restockers sold to a stronger demand selling to a top of 496c/kg for steers and 376c/kg for heifers.
Grown steers and heifers were 5 cents dearer with the prime grown steers making 308 – 344c/kg, while the heifer portion brought 290 – 330c/kg. Cows were 5-10 cents dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 150 - 276c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 263 - 288c/kg to average around 274c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Nyngan for the Young family off “Pinegrove”, who sold well finished Angus steers for 335 cents, they weighed in at 585kg coming back at $1963.
In the same district for the John & Mary Burley off “Woodlands Station”, who sold Angus cows in fresh condition bringing 270 cents, they weighed 561kg bringing $1515.
To Tooraweenah for the McWhirter family off “Springfield”, who sold well bred Santa/Angus cross heifers in fat condition weighing 535kg making 310 cents and coming back at over $1658.
Across to Mendooran for the Crothers family off “Grandchester”, who sold prime Limousin steers weighing 426kg bringing 464 cents to make over $1980.
Lastly to Geurie for the Beard family off “Winfield”, who sold well bred Angus and Angus cross steers that weighed 521kg selling for 350 cents, coming back at $1826.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good quality yarding with good runs of well finished heavy weight lambs alongside the odd pen of neat trade weights. Lightweight lambs to kill were $5 dearer with the 12kg – 18kg 2 scores making from $70 - $106. Trade weight lambs were $12 dearer with 20kg – 24kg making $123 - $188 to average 725c/kg. Heavy weight lambs were $15 dearer depending on quality with old lambs 24kg – 30kg selling from $184 - $238, with lambs over 30kg brought from $230 - $266 averaging 700c/kg.
Just a couple of quick quotes this week -
Firstly to Girilambone for the Angove family off “Courtlands”, who sold Aussie White lambs in a fresh 3 & 4 score condition to the southern exporter for $175.
Lastly to Wellington for the Whale Family off “Glenroy”, who sold well bred 2nd cross trade lambs in fresh condition for $132.
Into the mutton pens now, where most grades were represented in a mixed quality yarding that saw everything gain $15/head. Merino ewes sold from $50 - $153 while the crossbred ewes brought $96 - $149 and the Merino wethers topped at $146/head.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -
To the Marra for the Green family off “Mangoplah”, who sold well bred Merino ewes with a 2 ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $125.
In the same district for the Stendell family off “Ben Avon”, who sold heavyweight Merino ewes with a fresh 6 week skin, in a 3 & 4 score condition to the local exporter for $115.
Lastly to Wongarbon for the Kelly family off “Hillview”, who sold heavy crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition for $115.

Also don’t forget there will be no cattle sale on Thursday the 6th of April and no sheep and lamb sale on Monday the 10th April, due to the Easter break
