Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of April 2023. Tallied numbers this week included –
6500 fat cattle
16400 lambs and
13300 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a very mixed quality yarding. With a large percentage of cows penned with a lot being Bos Indicus cross. There were some good lines of heavy weight grown steers penned alongside a good number of lightweight restockers/feeders.
Young kill cattle were 10 – 15 cents cheaper with prime vealers topping at 430c/kg. Prime steer yearlings bringing 410c/kg and the prime yearling heifers made 340c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were also 10 – 15 cents cheaper with feeder steers selling from 300 - 410c/kg while the feeder heifers made 280 - 350c/kg. Young restockers were sold to a weaker demand due to the weight of numbers and quality.
Grown steers and heifers were firm with the prime grown steers making 300c – 360c/kg while the heifer portion brought 280 – 330c/kg. Cows were 20 cents cheaper, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 156 - 250c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 260 - 295c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Nyngan for the Burley family of “Woodlands Station”, who sold well bred Angus steer for 410 cents, they weighed in at 331kg coming back at $1359.
To Warren now for Kevin Cronin of “Wonga”, who sold well finished Angus cross steers in fat condition weighing 501kg making 370 cents and coming back at over $1854.
Across to Tottenham now for the Weber family of “Chelsea”, who sold well bred Angus steers to the feed orders weighing 375kg bringing 400 cents, making $1500.
In the same district for the Plummer family of “Trigoona”, who sold properly finished Red Angus 6 tooth heifers that weighed a massive 715kg selling for 310 cents, coming back at $2216.
To Albert now for the O’Neill family of “Nellady”, who sold well finished Hereford steers weighing 640kg for 343 cents, bringing $2198.
At Dubbo for the Walton Family of “Gungalman”, who sold heavy weigh Angus feeder steers for 360 cents that weighed 545kg making $1962.
Lastly for a Southern vendor who sold advertised Angus/Santa cross mixed sex weaners with the lead draft of male calves making 330 cents and weighing 297kg coming back at $982, while the heifer portion toped at 320 cents, weighing 278kg bringing $891.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a mixed quality yarding after a build up of 2 weeks worth of numbers. With good runs of well finished heavy weight lambs and trade lambs throughout. Trade weight lambs were $10 - $15 cheaper with old lambs making from $85 - $190 to average between 655 and 715c/kg. Heavy weight lambs were $10 cheaper with old lambs over 24kg selling from $185 - $256 to average between 685 – 735c/kg. Trade weight Merino lambs sold from $90 - $150 while the heavy weights sold to $187.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Firstly to Narromine for the Baker family of “Ercildoon”, who sold Aussie White lambs in a fresh 4 score condition to the exporter for $207.
Locally in the Dubbo district for the Pilon family of “Chloe”, who sold fresh crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $186.
In the same district for the Quinn family of “Caroo”, who sold Dorper cross lambs in a fresh condition to the southern orders for $159.
At Wongarbon now for the Walters family off “Plain Creek”, who sold crossbred lambs with an inch skin in a 3 score condition for $185.
Lastly to Geurie for the Whillock family of “Maxland”, who sold heavyweight crossbred lambs in fresh 4 score condition with a 6 weeks skin for $196.
Into the mutton pens now, where most grades were represented in a good quality yarding that saw everything gain $15/head. Merino ewes sold from $50 - $157 while the crossbred ewes brought $73 - $180 and the Merino wethers topped at $166.
Just a couple of quick quotes this week - to Nyngan for the Butler family of “Jambaroo”, who sold, well bred Merino ewes with a 2 inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $130.
And lastly locally for the O’Connor family of “Warren Downs”, who sold heavyweight Merino ewes with a 2 inch skin in a 3 score condition to the local exporter for $126.
