Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 4th week of March. Tallied numbers this week included -
3100 fat cattle
10000 lambs &
12000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly where numbers were back and quality was mixed. Some well finished young cattle to suit the trade and feeder orders. Grown steers and heifers were well supplied, as were cows. All the usual buyers competed in a cheaper market.
Young trade steers ranged from 358c/kg - 420c/kg with an isolated sale up to 458c/kg and the trade heifers sold from 340c/kg to 400c/kg. Feeder cattle eased 10 cents, with the steers selling from 320c/kg - 390c/kg, while the heifer portion sold from 270c/kg - 356c/kg. Restockers were selective on breed and happy to give up to 446 cents for Angus steers.
Grown steers and heifers eased 8 cents with the steer portion selling from 288c/kg - 348c/kg and the prime heifers sold from 290c/kg - 334c/kg. Cows lost 4 cents as the prime heavy weights sold from 256c/kg - 288c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 298c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for some of their clients -
Locally for the Grattan Family of ‘Pine Park’, who sold Angus cows for 260 cents, they weighed 685kg to return $1781.
Warren Piper of ‘Cabin Downs’ at Uarbry, sold Hereford heifers for 297 cents, weighing 390kg to come back at $1159.
The Pascoe family of ‘Bell River Farms’ at Bakers Swamp, sold Angus cows for 267 cents, weighing an impressive 700kg to return $1870.
The McWhirter family of ‘Springfield’ at Tooraweenah, sold Angus cross bullocks for 306 cents, weighing 594kg to come back at $1820.
The Walker family of ‘Gillendoon’ at Warren, sold Shorthorn steers for 308 cents, they weighed 513kg for $1582.
To Nyngan now and for the Burley Family of ‘Woodlands Station’, who sold Santa cross cows for 255 cents, weighing 580kg to return $1479.
The Gibson family of ‘Wilgadale’, sold Hereford steers for 330 cents, weighing 533kg to come back at $1760.
The Young family of ‘Pinegrove’, sold Angus steers for 330 cents, weighing 622kg to return $2055.
And lastly for Nugget & Kay Carter of ‘Birrimba’, who sold milk tooth Santa steers for 315 cents, weighing 595kg to come back at $1874.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now where numbers were back, as was quality right across the board. Limited lines of heavy weights and trades were on offer with large numbers of secondary lightweight lambs and hoggets.
Lightweight lambs to the kill sold from $85 - $103. Trade lambs were a little stronger, up $3 to sell from $133 to $183. Heavy weight lambs remained firm to sell from $180 - $230, with extra heavies selling from $225 to $240. Merino lambs lacked finish with the trades selling from $98 - $120, while a pen of heavy Merino lambs sold to $175. The best heavy hoggets sold to a top of $126.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for some of their clients -
Locally for Doug Bambrick, who sold Dorper cross lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $165.
David Campbell, sold Dorper cross lambs in a 3 score condition for $165.
The Bryan family of ‘Newe Park’ at Warren, sold Merino hoggets in a 3/4 score condition with an inch skin for $110.
The Weber family of ‘Kia-Ora’ at Tottenham, sold White Suffolk cross store lambs with a 2 inch skin for $86.
And for the Mannix family of ‘Gumbooka’ at Bourke, who sold fresh Dorper wether lambs to the domestic kill orders for $135.
Into the mutton pens now where a mostly plain quality yarding across all grades saw prices drop $3 - $8.
Lightweight ewes sold from $28 - $60
Medium weight ewes sold from $68 - $83
Heavy weight ewes sold from $96 - $126
Lightweight wethers sold from $30 - $59
Medium weight wethers sold from $73 - $98
Heavy weight wethers $105 - $147.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for some of their clients -
The Foster family of ‘Gundabooka’ at Cumnock, sold Merino wethers in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $95.
The George family of ‘The Corners’ at Nyngan, sold Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for $110.
And for the Robinson Family of ‘Ellerslie’ at Bourke, who sold Merino wethers in a 3 score condition with an inch and a half skin to the export orders for $98.
