Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everybody this is John Lindsay with a look at this weeks livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of March.

Tallied numbers this week included –

 1390 Fat Cattle
 9500 Lambs 
 2000 Mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly where there was a smaller number on offer, mainly consisting of younger cattle with a nice run of grain fed yearlings.  The market was fully firm for most categories with cows 4c to 8c dearer with re-stocker cattle still extremely solid on what was once again an extremely solid market.

Light yearling steers to re-stockers 355 to 496 cents with feeder draft over 300kg 398 to 430 cents with heavier drafts over 400kg 368 to 419 cents.  

Yearling heifers to re-stockers 360 to 425 cents, feeder drafts 348 to 412 cents with heavier drafts over 400kg 346 to 409 cents, with kill drafts and all grain assisted 345 to 394 cents.

Light boner cows to re-stockers, 256 to 289 cents, medium weights 248 to 298 cents with high yielding cows 285 to 316 cents and topping at 330 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Locally for the Skinner Family of ‘Wembley Park’ who sold prime Fresian cows for 282 cents, weighed 840kg to return $2370.

Firstly for Randall & Kylie Carlow who sold Angus cows for 299 cents, they weighed 565 cents and came back at $1690.

Warren & Narelle Leven at Geurie sold Angus steer to feedlotters that weighed 350kg for 420 cents and they came back at $1465.

For a western vendor, young Santa cross heifers that weighed 255kg, for 405 cents and they came back at $1030.

Fat Sheep & Lamb

Into the lamb pens now although small, was a very good yarding of lambs with some excellent heavy weights penned.  The market in general was still strong however most categories were firm to $5 cheaper on what was still a very strong market.

Into crossbred sales firstly with light weights in short supply to re-stockers $138 to $150, kill types up to 18kg dressed $164 to $180, Light trade weights $179 to $203, Medium trade $192 to $225, heavy trade to $215 to $245 with export weights seeing most sales between $240 and $261 with this weeks top price being $298 with some super heavies estimated to weigh over 30kg dressed.

Into Merino sales, light kill types in short supply $128 to $160, heavy trade weights $213 to $225.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following for their clients –

First for locally, Kylie & Cameron Beard at Geurie who sold export weight 2nd cross lambs with a ½ inch skin for $266.

David Campbell at Dubbo sold grain fed 2nd cross lambs, also with a ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition and these very tidy lambs made $227.

At Gulargambone for Col Ryan who sold light export 1st cross lambs in a 3 score condition with a ¼ inch skin for $213.

While David Pickett of “Ellerslie” sold light trade weight Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition and these top lambs made $177.

Into the mutton pens where it was a smaller number yarded however the market was $5 dearer for all categories.  

Light boner ewes mainly to re-stockers $50 to $68
Boner ewes $134 to $150
Medium weights $144 to $175 with crossbred $138 to $158 and with some suitable young re-stocker draft $161 to $207, export weights $180 to $236 for crossbreds or $183 to $219 for Merinos.

Into wether sales which were in short supply, medium weights $150 to $167 with export weights $170 to $205 with a beautiful draft of export weight wethers over 30kg dressed making $234.
