Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon everyone, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the third week of March 2020.  Tallied numbers this week included –

1800 fat cattle
8000 lambs and
4000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a good quality yarding with some excellent runs of grain fed yearlings – also with small number of cows and restocker cattle.  All regular buyers were operating in an erratic market. 

Light restocker steers ranged from 402 to 550 cents, light yearling steers to restockers were dearer ranging from 345 to 468 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg to feedlotters 349 to 416 cents.  Yearling heifers to restockers were also dearer selling from 305 to 412 cents, with feeder drafts 370 to 390 cents but had to be good.  Better heifers to kill being grain assisted sold from 363 to 410 cents.

Grown steers and heifers were limited in supply this week which resulted in a dearer trend on quality as the steers sold from 304 to 379 cents, with grown heifers reaching a top of 374 cents.  Cows were cheaper this week – up to 10 cents in places with 2 scores selling from 240 to 267 cents and the better D3 and 4 cows selling from 260 to 292 cents.  The best heavy bull reached a top of 310 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

The Courts Family of “Glenalbyn” at Wellington, sold Santa bulls for 300 cents, weighing 547kg for $1642.

For a local client who sold Angus steers for 412 cents, weighing 449kg to return $1853.

Suze White of “Cardington” at Molong, sold Charolais cross heifers for 380 cents, weighing 315kg to return $1197. 

Gary Deaves at Tingha, sold young Angus restocker steers for 374 cents, weighing 241kg to return $903.

And for The Hull Family of “Hughenden” at Gulargambone, who sold Hereford steers for 388 cents, weighing 268kg to return $1041.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was another good quality yarding with a very good selection of well finished heavy weights and the odd pen of good trade weights.  Light weight lambs to the processor remained firm – selling from $140 to $160.  Trade weight lambs were $10 cheaper – selling from $176 to $227.  Heavy weight lambs were also cheaper this week – ranging from $244 to $294, with extra heavy weights selling from $306 to $320.

Merino trade weights were $8 cheaper – selling from $171 to $183, while heavy Merino’s sold to a top of $218.  Restockers also lost some ground from last week, as the better bred types sold from $137 to $157.  Hoggets sold to a top of $219.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

Locally for Rod Pilon of “Chloe” at Dubbo, who sold a magnificent run of extra heavy weight lambs, in a 4 score condition to the export orders for a sale topping $320.

The Whillock Family of “Maxland” at Geurie, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 3 score condition, to the domestic kill for $222.

Adam & Billie-Jean Altus of “Wyndorah” at Coonamble, sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition and a ½ inch skin for $235.

Bob & Robin Smart of “Tullarook” at Trangie, sold young Merino lambs in a 2 score condition, with a ½ inch skin to the restockers for $121.

And for Noel & Lynette Dunn of “Bundong Station” at Coolabah, who sold cull Merino ram lambs in a 3 score condition, to the domestic kill for $200.

Into the mutton pens now, where a mixed quality yarding with limited lines of heavy weights were on offer in a firm market.

Light ewes sold from $90 to $127
Medium weight ewes sold from $120 to $168
Heavy ewes sold from $172 to $214

Light wethers sold from $111 to $148
Medium weight wethers sold from $150 to $180
Heavy wethers sold from $183 to $200

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients –

Geoff & Margaret Frankham of “Glenroy” at Ballimore, sold SAMM ewes in a 3 score condition, with a 1 inch skin for $144.

Matt & Kylie Whale of “Glenroy” at Wellington, sold crossbred ewes in a 3 score condition for $174.

The Plummer Family of “Trigoona” at Tottenham, sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with a 1 inch skin for $179.

And lastly for Jean Dunn of “Mayfield” at Coolabah, who sold crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition for $224.

Just a quick mention that the clearing sale which was to be held tomorrow 21/3/20 at “Glenroy” Ballimore has been postponed until further notice.
