Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets for the first week of Spring 2020. Tallied numbers this week included –
4300 fat cattle
13000 lambs and
2000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a quality yarding of heavy weight cattle as well as good runs of feeder weights. Cows and vealers were limited in supply in a firm to slightly cheaper market.
Vealer steers sold from 450 to 480 cents, while heifer vealers sold from 410 to 460 cents. Feeder steers lost 10 cents this week – ranging from 370 to 440 cents, while the heifer portion sold from 357 to 418 cents but prices were breed and weight related.
Grown steers were well supplied – selling from 332 to 358 cents, while grown heifers sold from 302 to 322 cents. Cows looked to be a little cheaper to me – selling from 275 to 316 cents and the best heavy bull sold to a top of 342 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Locally for Tim & Carmel Koerstz of “Warrie” at Dubbo, who sold Angus cross steers for 385 cents, weighing 550kg to return $2100.
Kate Weber of “Meadowbank” at Geurie, sold heavy Shorthorn bullocks for 350 cents, weighing 733kg to return $2500.
Rod & Kay Crothers of “Grandchester” at Mendooran, sold Limousin heifers for 409 cents, weighing 390kg to return $1595.
To Nyngan for John & Mary Burley of “Woodlands Station”, who sold Angus steers for 352 cents, weighing 400kg to return $1400.
Jack & Dione Carter of “Innaminna”, sold Speckle Park bullocks for 345 cents, weighing 621kg to return $2100.
The McLaughlin Family of “Merryanbone North”, sold Hereford heifers for 383 cents, weighing 418kg to return $1600.
To Bourke now for The Gordon Family of “Mooculta West”, who sold Santa cross steers for 419 cents, weighing 367kg to return $1540.
Clarry George of “Yulcarley Station”, who sold Hereford steers for 391 cents, weighing 379kg to return $1483.
And lastly for The Lindsay Family of “Mulganey” at Wanaaring, who sold heavy Santa cows for 290 cents, weighing 645kg to return $1871.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where a good quality yarding was on offer as the market fluctuated in places. Suckers lost $5 to $7 depending on weight and freshness and sold from $135 to $163. Trade weights remained firm – selling from $138 to $166 for crossbreds, while the Merino’s sold from $128 to $140. Heavy lambs were dearer selling from $174 to $198, while the extra heavy lambs sold from $202 to $219. The best heavy hogget sold to a top of $189.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly locally for The Pilon Family of “Chloe” at Dubbo, who sold heavy export weight crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, with a 1 inch skin for $205.
The Yeo Family of “Lambar”, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 4 score condition, with a ½ inch skin for $191.
To Geurie now and for The Johnson Family of “Komoora”, who sold crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, with a ½ inch skin for $174.
The Whillock Family of “Maxland”, sold crossbred suckers in a fresh 3 score condition, to the supermarket orders for $148.
To Tottenham now, for Leith & Kay Adam of “Berridale”, who sold Aussie White lambs in a 3 score condition, to the trade orders for $155.
Brad & Sophie Cook of “Donola”, sold heavy export weight lambs in a 4 score condition, to the southern kill for a sale topping $219.
And for The Pocknell Family of “Springvale Station” at Walgett, who sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition, to the southern trade orders for $138.
Limited numbers of mutton were on offer which saw prices a little dearer across all grades.
Light ewes sold from $85 to $126
Medium weight ewes sold from $124 to $145
Heavy ewes sold from $150 to $182
Light wethers sold from $115 to $123
Medium weight wethers sold from $125 to $152
Heavy wethers sold from $155 to $165
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients –
The O’Connor Family of “Warren Downs” at Wongarbon, sold crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition, with a ½ inch skin for $182.
Bob & Robin Hubbard of “Tanna” at Wellington, sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with a ½ inch skin for $167.
Rod & Kay Crothers of “Grandchester” at Mendooran, sold heavy crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition for $170.
And lastly for The Johnstone Family of “Mulwarree” at Warren, who sold Merino wethers in a 3 score condition, to the export orders for $154.
