Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of June 2022.  Tallied numbers this week included –

1400 fat cattle
8100 lambs and
  
4300 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a plainer quality yarding on offer with a couple of pens of well finished steers and grown heifers on offer.  

Young kill cattle were cheaper with prime steer vealers a top of 606c/kg.  Prime yearlings brought 500 - 574c/kg.  Feeder steers were firm while the feeder heifers were 10 – 15 cents cheaper with feeder steers selling from 442 - 620c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 435 - 563c/kg.  Young restockers were 20 cents dearer selling to a top of 865c/kg for steers and 680c/kg for heifers.


Grown steers and heifers were firm to 5 cents dearer.  Prime grown steers made 420 – 489c/kg, while the heifers made 426 – 470c/kg.  Cows were 10 cents dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 280 - 366c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 340 - 390c/kg to average around 372c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to Nyngan for the Burley family of “Woodlands Station”, who sold large frame Brahman cross cows for 365 cents, they weighed in at 642kg coming back at $2345.

Over at Coonamble for the Millner family, who sold well finished Shorthorn cross heifers for 446 cents, weighing 527kg bringing $2353

At Wellington for the Grattan family of “Pine Park’, who sold well bred Angus feeder steers that weighed 417kg making 620 cents, coming making $2587.

Lastly to Geurie now for the Carter Family of “Strathmore”, who sold well finished Angus steers that weighed 641kg bringing 489 cents, making $3136.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good quality yarding with a selection of heavy lambs and the odd pen of trade weights throughout, with a better supply of Merino lambs.  Trade weight lambs were $10 dearer making from $145 - $208 to average around 770c – 835c/kg. Heavy weight lambs were $5 dearer with lambs 24 – 30kg selling from $196 - $225 to average between 765 - 785c/kg.  Lambs over 30kg sold from $240 - $280 averaging 765c/kg.  Merino’s were $10 - $15 dearer with trade weights making from $142 -$203 while the heavyweights topped at $225.    

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Firstly to Nyngan for the Hoare family off “Karabran”, who sold SAMM lambs in a fresh 3 & 4 score condition with an inch and a half skin for $214.

Now to Gulargambone for the Ryan family off “Mayfield”, who sold fresh crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition to the southern exporter for $196.

Lastly to Geurie for the Beard family, who sold, heavy 2nd cross lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $216.

Into the mutton pens now, where most grades were represented in a good quality yarding. Light and heavy weight sheep were $5 - $10 dearer, while the medium weights lost $10. Merino ewes sold from $100 - $215 and the crossbred ewes made $155 - $261.  Merino wethers sold from $135 - $218. Most sheep averaged between 600 – 650c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -


Firstly to Girilambone for the Gibson family off “Wilgadale”, who sold well bred Merino ewes with an inch skin in a 3 score condition for $158.

Now to Nyngan for the McConochie family off “Mirilba”, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 & 4 score condition to the local exporter for $187.

Down the road to Warren for the Cosgrove family off “Mylone”, who sold large frame Dohne ewes in a three score condition for $158.  

Lastly to Geurie for Phil Hubbard off “Kainga”, who sold shorn Merino ewes in a 3 score condition for $155.
