Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh with the weekly livestock market report out of Dubbo for the last week in May 2022. Tallied numbers this week included -

1500 fat cattle
12000 lambs and
4000 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly where a mixed quality yarding was on offer with suitable lines of young cattle, grown steers and heifers were limited and cows were well supplied.

Young cattle to the trade were firm to 5 cents dearer with prime vealers selling to 590c/kg. Prime steer yearlings sold to a top of 600 cents, while the heifer portion sold from 504 - 610c/kg. Light weight feeder steers and heifers were 10 cents dearer. Feeder steers sold from 550 - 626c/kg while the heifers sold from 530 - 600c/kg.

Grown steers remained firm to sell from 410 - 440c/kg while the heifers lost 8 cents to range from 440 - 478c/kg. Cows were dearer across all grades with the better D3/4 cows selling from 340 - 388c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -

Locally for Graham Baker of ‘Rosedail’ who sold Speckle Park cross steers for 514 cents, they weighed 425kg to return $2185.

The Clatworthy Family of ‘Mia Mia’ at Dubbo, sold Angus steers for 719 cents, weighing 280kg to return $2017.

And for the Haesler Family of ‘Sarsfield’ at Wellington, who sold Speckle Park cross steers for 554 cents, they weighed 298kg to return $1651.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where a mostly plain quality yarding was on offer. Large percentage of secondary lambs yarded and lambs showing dryness as the wet conditions continue. All the usual buyers competed in a cheaper market.

Trade lambs were $20 softer compared to the previous market. Trade lambs sold from $146 - $188. Heavy weight lambs were $10 cheaper selling from $165 - $233, while the extra heavy lambs sold from $240 - $270. Merino lambs lost $15, with the trade weights selling from $120 - $175, while a pen of heavies sold to $190. The best heavy hoggets sold to $226.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Paul & Carmel Quinn of “Caroo’ in Dubbo, sold Dorper wether lambs in a 3 score condition to the local butchers for $185.

Matt & Kylie Whale of ‘Glenroy’ at Wellington, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 3 score condition for $193.

The McKay Family of ‘Winnabri’ at Trangie, sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $145.

And for the The Hoare family of ‘Karabran’ at Nyngan, who sold a top line of SAMM cross lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $199.


Into the mutton pens now where all grades were represented in a dearer market.

Light weight ewes sold from $76 - $130
Medium weight ewes sold from $143 - $178
Heavy ewes sold from $183 - $225

Light weight wethers sold from $110 - $132
Medium weight wethers sold from $141 - $169
Heavy wethers sold from $185 - $210.


Just a couple of quick quotes this week, for Phil Hubbard of ‘Kainga’ at Wellington, who sold Merino ewes in a 2/3 score condition with a half inch skin for $170.

And for Pete Edwards and Amanda Dunn of ‘Tubbavilla’ at Coolabah, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with an inch skin for $183.
