Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s  livestock markets out of Dubbo for the second week of June 2022.

Tallied numbers this week included -

 1 200 fat cattle
10 000 lambs
 7 000 grown sheep.

Into the cattle pens firstly where there was a smaller number on offer mainly due to a large portion of the drawing area still very wet.  It was a mixed quality yarding with most categories represented on what was predominantly a fully firm market.

Light vealer steers and mainly to restockers, 488 to 732 cents and mainly in that 250kgs bracket. Vealer heifers also to restockers 410 to 622 cents.

Yearling steers under 400kgs to feedlotters 426 to 548 cents for the Bos Indicus cross drafts with the British drafts 566 to 624 cents with restocker drafts 498 to 670 cents.

Heavier drafts over 400kgs to feed 500 to 580 cents for the better-quality British drafts with the crossbred portion 498 to 518 cents.

Yearling heifers under 400 kgs to feedlotters 486 to 530 cents with suitable restocker drafts 500 to 626 cents. Heavier drafts over 400 kgs to feed 480 to 558 cents with Bos Indicus cross drafts 426 to 500 cents with kill drafts in short supply but saw sales between 520 and 610 cents.

Into export sales with steers firstly which were in much shorter supply with young bullocks up to 600kgs making up to 480 cents with older bullocks mainly being 4 and 6 teeth seeing sales up to 440 cents.

To cow sales, Boner cows 270 to 290 cents in shorter supply.
Medium weights 260 to 334 cents with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 310 and 360 cents and topping at 380 cents. With bulls this week in high demand seeing a lot of sales between 300 and 330 cents and this week topping at 360 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber had the following results for their clients –

Locally for Ray Crook who sold yearling Angus steers to the feedlotters for 656 cents, they weighed 360kg and the came back at $2365.

Pete & Leanne Stimpson off ‘Medway Park’ sold large framed Simmental cows that weighed 820kg for 375 cents and these top cows came back at $3075.

At Wellington for the Blackhall Family who sold Santa cross weaners that weighed 230kg for 615 cents and these top calves came back at $1435.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where numbers were affected due to weekend rain.  Most categories were well represented with all regular buyers operating. The market in general was only just firm on last week’s very strong market with the exception of good quality trade lambs which were up to $5 dearer.

Into cross bred sales firstly with light weights up to 18kgs dressed $122 to $137.

Trade weight lambs which were, as mentioned, were up to at least $6 dearer $140 to $180 for the lighter drafts with the medium and heavier drafts $180 to $209.

Export weights were $3 to $5 dearer with the lighter export weights $200 to $258 with the heavier weights estimated to weigh over 30kgs dressed, $238 to $286.

Into merino sales and mainly being trade weights, seeing sales between $146 and $195 with export weights $190 to $208.

Carter Lindsay & Weber had the following results for their clients –

Locally for the Whale Family off ‘Glenroy’ who sold heavy trade weight 2nd cross lambs with an 8 week skin for $190.

For the Pilon Family off ‘Chloe’ who sold light export 2nd cross lambs with a ¼ inch skin and well rounded and these top lambs made $224.

Ben & Anne Kidd off ‘Kungee’ who sold heavy trade weight 1st cross lambs with a 6 week skin and these tidy lambs made $190.

While at Nyngan for the Hoare Family off ‘Karabran’ who sold large framed SAMM lambs with a 1 ½ inch skin to the exporters and these top lambs made $210.

Into the mutton pens now where the market was at least $5 to $10 dearer on most categories on what was a strong market.

Boner ewes $90 to $115 mainly being Merinos,  medium weights $128 to $170 with export weights $180 to $227 for Merinos, with the crossbred portion $180 to $270, bearing in mind they were very heavy.

Medium weight Merino wethers $112 to $170 with export weight Merino wethers $180 to $220 generally, and up to $244 with some excellent White Dorper wethers making up to $280.
