Fat Cattle Report
Good morning everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at the livestock markets out of Dubbo for the last week of September, 2022. Tallied numbers this week included –
2100 fat cattle
12000 lambs
5000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a good yarding of cattle with the market stronger for most categories, with the exception of cows, which were already solid and they remained fully firm.
Vealer steers mainly all to restockers 570 to 626 cents, with the heifer portion 520 to 570 cents. Yearling steers to restockers 592 to 670 cents, with feeder drafts up to 400kg live 530 to 584 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 510 to 564 cents or 494 to 570 cents to kill. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed 540 to 576 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg also to feed 432 to 536 cents, with suitable kill drafts 480 to 540 cents.
Into export sales, medium weight cows 330 to 389 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 390 and up to 424 cents with plenty around that 410 mark. Export steers were in short supply with young bullocks seeing sales between 465 to 495 cents, with mature aged bullocks 430 to 442 cents, with heavy weight kill heifers and I must say what was yarded was very good 440 to 494 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Locally for Murray Horstman at Stuart Town, who sold vealer Angus steers to restockers for 670 cents, they weighed 290kg and they came back at $1940.
At Coonamble for The Harvey Family of “Glenhaven”, who sold young, forward Angus heifers to feedlotters, that weighed 430kg for 527 cents and these well bred heifers came back at $2270.
To the Marra for Simon & Kelly Earl of “Longstowe”, who sold Charolais cross heifers in forward condition and very fresh, to feedlotters for 539 cents, they weighed 425kg and these top heifers came back at $2290.
The George Family of “The Corners” at Nyngan, sold crossbred cows for 405 cents, they weighed 525kg and these tidy cows came back at $2130.
Lastly for The Robinson Family of “Ellerslie” at Bourke, who sold heavy Angus cross feeder steers that weighed 515kg for 518 cents and these top steers came back at $2670.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a smaller yarding, however most categories were still represented. The market in general was stronger by as much as $4 to $8 and could have been more on Merino lambs, with the export weights in high demand and up to $15 dearer.
Into suckers or new season lambs firstly, with light weights up to 18kg dressed to kill $150 to $156 or up to $145 to restockers
Medium trade weights up to 22kg dressed $150 to $175
Heavy trade weights $180 to $194, with export drafts in shorter supply but making up to $203
Into older crossbred sales, light weighs up to 18kg dressed $100 to $110
Medium trade up to 22kg dressed $122 to $187
Heavy trade or light export $168 to $190
Drafts up to 26kg dressed $165 to $198
With heavy weights up to 30kg dressed $192 to $230
With super heavies well over 30kg dressed $232 to $268, with the majority being around that $245 mark.
To Merino’s, with light weights up to 16kg dressed and mainly to restockers $55 to $90
Up to 18kg dressed $100 to $112
Medium trade $122 to $145
With heavy trade $155 to $185
With export weights up to 30kg dressed $190 to $201
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Locally for Monte Carlo who sold first cross Dorset suckers, fresh and forward to restockers and these top lambs made $149.
To Nyngan for The Herbert Family, who sold fresh first cross suckers – straight off the ewes and these top lambs made $175.
To Hermidale now for Jon & Helen Matchett of “Budgery”, who sold export weight first cross lambs, with a 4 week skin and these top lambs made $187,
And lastly for The Dewhurst Family of “Elmsley”, who sold large framed export weight 1st cross lambs with an inch skin, in a 4 score condition and these top lambs made $230.
Into the mutton pens now, where the market was fully firm on last week’s rates.
Light boner ewes $60 to $90
Medium weight Merino ewes $102 to $138, with the crossbred portion $118 to $136
Export weights $135 to $170 for Merino’s or $138 to $167 for crossbreds
With super heavies $148 to $176 for crossbreds or $150 to $188 for Merino’s
Medium weight Merino wethers $120 to $146
With export weights $142 to $156
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $150 to $176 for Merino’s and up to $170 for crossbreds.
Just some quick quotes for The Betts Family of “Mirrabooka” at Cobar, who sold large framed export weight Merino wethers, with a ½ inch skin and they rang the bell this week making $176. While on the same truck, large framed Merino ewes with a 6 week skin, also to exporters and these top ewes made $150.
