Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock markets at Dubbo for the fourth week of September. Tallied numbers this week included –
1485 fat cattle
19000 lamb
4200 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a fair to good quality yarding with only odd lots of young cattle to suit the processors though there were good numbers of well finished grown steers to suit the processors and feeders. There were fair numbers of young cattle to suit the restockers and backgrounders.
Young cattle to the trade were 10 cents cheaper with prime vealers selling to 550c/kg. Prime steer yearlings sold from 480 to 550 cents, while the prime heifer yearlings sold to 490c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were up to 18 cents cheaper with the feeder steers selling from 384 to 576c/kg. Feeder heifers sold from 360 to 540c/kg. Young cattle to the restockers were considerably dearer with the young steers selling from 548 to 726 cents, while the young restocker heifers sold from 406 to 685c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers were 3 to 7 cents cheaper with the prime grown steers selling from 440 to 492c/kg. Prime grown heifers sold to 510c/kg. Cows were 5 cents dearer with 3 scores selling from 320 to 414 cents, while the prime heavy weight cows sold from 395 to 440 cents to average 415c/kg. Heavy bulls were dearer selling to 376c/kg.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens, where it was a mixed yarding with some good runs of suckers and heavy weight lambs throughout. Limited supply of trade weight old lambs, alongside good numbers of well finished Merino lambs.
Trade weight suckers were $10 to $15 cheaper – selling from $134 to $190 averaging around 730 to 790 c/kg. Trade weight old lambs were also $15 cheaper selling from $112 to $176 averaging around 680 to 700 cents/kg. Heavy weight lambs $10 to $12 cheaper with lambs over 24kg selling from $155 to $230 – averaging 690 cents/kg. Merino lambs were also $10 to $15 cheaper, with the trade weights selling from $102 to $160, while the heavy weights topped at $202.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to Hermidale for the Dewhurst Family of “Elmsley”, who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 and 4 score condition, with an inch skin for $185.
In the same district for the Matchett Family of “Budgery”, who sold crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, freshly shorn for $194.
To Tottenham for The Plummer Family of “Trigoona”, who sold Merino wether lambs in a 3 score condition, with a ½ inch skin, to the southern kill for $122.
To Nyngan for The McConochie Family of “Mirilba”, who sold extra heavy weight crossbred lambs with an inch skin, to the northern exporter for $230.
Down the highway to Warren for The Walker Family of “Gillendoon”, who sold heavy weight Merino wether lambs with a 2 inch skin for $162.
To Geurie now, for the Millner Family of “Geurie Homestead”, who sold heavy weight crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, with a 1 ½ inch skin, to the local exporter for $218.
The Whillock Family of “Maxland”, who sold trade weight crossbred suckers, in a fresh condition, to the kill for $168.
Lastly to Wellington for The Whale Family of “Glenroy”, who sold fresh 2nd cross suckers, to the domestic kill for $168.
Into the mutton pens now, where it was a fair quality yarding of mutton that saw all grades lose $10 to $15 with light Merino ewes selling from $50 to $90, while the medium weights sold from $100 to $140 and the heavy weights topping out at $156. Crossbred ewes sold from $111 to $166, while the best Merino wether topped out at $170.
Just a quick quote this week, for The Gibson Family of “Wilgadale” at Girilambone, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition, with a 6 week skin for $140.
