Fat Cattle Report
Good morning everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the second week of November, 2020. Numbers this week included –
2300 fat cattle
6200 lambs and
2600 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a similar number yarded as previous weeks, with most categories represented. The market in general was firm for most categories, with feeder cattle only just shy of firm on what is still a very strong market.
Vealer steers in shorter supply and mainly to restockers – 458 to 690 cents, but they were mainly only up to 200kg live. Vealer heifers to processors – 449 to 465 cents, yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 380 to 450 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg to feedlots 380 to 443 cents, with suitable kill drafts 388 to 419 cents. Yearling heifers under 400kg to processors 393 to 446 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg - also to kill 405 to 421 cents.
Into export sales, heavy feeder steers up to 500kg 380 to 421 cents, with young bullocks 370 to 399 cents. Export heifers were strong seeing sales between 310 and 387 cents, with the pick of the draft making up to 395 cents and mainly being 2 tooths. Boner cows 260 to 285 cents, medium weights 297 to 308 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 300 to 318 cents for the majority and topping at 323 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Geurie, for the Whillock Family of “Maxland”, who sold Hereford steers to the heavy feeders for 415 cents, they weighed 510kg and these top steers came back at $2120.
Elwyn & Rachel Perry of “Allandale”, sold Hereford cross feeder steers for 432 cents, they weighed 465kg and these top steers came back at $2015.
Andrew & Nicolette Vaughan of “Iona” at Yeoval, sold Angus steers – also to the heavy feeders for 432 cents, they weighed 520kg and they came back at $2245.
The Hegarty Family of “Ulundry“ at Coonamble, sold CFA Hereford cross bullocks that made 312 cents, they weighed 865kg and these top steers returned $2700.
The Dewhurst Family of “Elmsley” at Hermidale, sold Hereford cross feeder steers for 413 cents, they weighed 445kg and came back at $1850.
While ex agistment cattle – Charolais cross cows that weighed 557kg for 323 cents, and they came back at $1800.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a smaller yarding on what was a dearer market for all categories – given the small number.
Into suckers firstly, trade weights $154 to $175
With export weights $190 to $208 and topping at $210
Into older crossbred sales, trade weights $160 to $190
While heavy weight saw most sales between $188 and $255 and topping at $269
Merino’s were up to $5 dearer with trade weights $140 to $180
With limited heavy weights but seeing sales between $198 and $223
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Locally for the Whillock Family of “Maxland” at Geurie, who sold export weight 2nd cross unshorn suckers, in a 3 score condition and these top lambs made $215.
The O’Connor Family of “Warren Downs“ at Wongarbon, sold export weight 2nd cross lambs – properly presented with a 6 week skin to the exporter and these top lambs made $255.
The Johnston Family of “Komoora” at Geurie, sold light export weight crossbred lambs, in a 3 score condition with a ½ inch skin for $212.
While at Baradine for The Finlay Family of “Kinross”, who sold heavy trade weight Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $176.
Into the mutton pens, where like the lambs it was a smaller number on what was a slightly softer market on the back of a very strong one last week.
Medium weight Merino ewes $107 to $175
Export weight Merino ewes $166 to $208 generally and topping at $220
With crossbred ewes $170 to $200
With super heavies – up to $220
Medium weight Merino wethers $156 to $177
With export weights $173 to $203 and topping at $230
With the crossbred portion $165 to $170
With the big boys $208 to $250
