Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week of November, 2020. Tallied numbers this week included –
2800 fat cattle
15700 lambs and
4300 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a plainer quality yarding then what has been penned in previous weeks but still with good numbers of both feeders and cattle to suit the processors. There wasn’t as many cows penned this week.
Young kill cattle were 5 cents dearer with prime vealers selling to a top of 460c/kg. Prime steers yearlings brought 405 – 446 cents, while the prime heifers yearlings made 390 – 446 cents. Overall feeder cattle finished the day 5 – 10 cents dearer. Feeder steers brought 384 - 458c/kg while the feeder heifers made 375 - 449c/kg.
Both steer and heifer restockers were cheaper with quality being the main driving factor. Steer weaners made 440 – 555 cents, while the yearling steers back to the paddock made 370 – 514 cents, the heifer weaners to restockers sold for 446 – 480 cents, while the older yearling heifers brought 375 – 508 cents. Grown steers and heifers saw no change with prime steers selling from 340 – 414 cents, while prime grown heifers brought 330 - 385c/kg.
Medium cows lost 5 cents, while the heavy weights held firm, with medium 2 & 3 score cows bringing 260 – 298 cents, while the prime heavy weights made 299 - 320c/kg finishing the day averaging 309c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Hungerford for Mick & Michaela Fisher off ‘Kilberoo’, who sold well finished Angus cross steers for 352 cents, weighing in at 700kg making $2465.
Now to Tooraweenah for the McWhirter family off ’Springfield’, who sold a well bred line of Angus/Santa cross steers for 387 cents, weighing 554kg bringing $2146.
Down the road to Mendooran for Matt & Rachel Adams off ‘St Louie’, who sold Charolais cross cows that made 311 cents, they weighed 543kg coming back at over $1689.
In the same district for Rod & Kay Crothers off ’Grandchester’, who sold heavy well bred Limousin cows weighing 710kg for 318 cents and they came back at $2259.
Lastly to Gulgong for the Wood Family, who sold top quality Santa/Angus cross steers to the restock for 453 cents, they weighed 325kg making $1475.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good quality yarding with some good runs of heavy weight suckers penned. Trade lambs were $5 cheaper with trade suckers selling from $150 - $185 to average between 765c - 805c/kg. Trade old lambs sold from $140 - $190. Heavy weight lambs had no change with the old lambs over 24kg bringing $184 - $250, while the over 24kg suckers brought $204 - $226. Merino lambs were $5 cheaper with the trade weights selling from $136 - $184 while the heavy weights over 24kg making $192 - $215.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to Baradine for the Horder family off ’Cartref’, who sold well covered Dorper lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $176.
To Geurie now for the Johnston family off ‘Komoora’, who sold crossbred suckers in a 3 score condition for $180.
In the same district for the Beard family, who sold fresh shorn crossbred suckers in a 2 & 3 condition for $190.
Now in the mutton pens, where it was a good quality yarding where ewes fell by around $5 and the wether portion held firm.
Merino ewes made from $120 - $239, while crossbred ewes sold for $150 - $242. Merino wethers sold from $140 - $225.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -
Quickly to Bourke for the Junk family off ‘Talowla’, who sold heavy Merino wethers in a 3 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $185.
And lastly in the same district, for the Fraser family off ‘Woodlands’, who sold a line of heavy Merino wethers in a 3 score condition to the exporters for $154.
