Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of September 2020.  Tallied numbers this week included –

3000 fat cattle
18700 lambs and

 5300 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was another great yarding with plenty of numbers of properly finished cattle across all grades.  Limited grown steers and heifers were penned to previous weeks and there were some excellent pens of cows yarded.

Young kill cattle were firm with prime vealers selling to 426c/kg.  Prime yearling steers brought 380 to 418 cents, while the prime heifer yearlings made 350 to 415 cents.  Light feeders finished 8 cents cheaper and the heavy weight feeders were unchanged.  Feeder steers brought 356 to 423c/kg while the feeder heifers made 340 to 402c/kg.  

 

Young restocker calves sold to strong demand with steer calves topping at 495 cents and heifers at 452 cents.  Prime grown steers and heifers were 5 to 10 cents cheaper with steers selling from 310 to 366 cents, while grown heifers brought 300 to 359c/kg.  All Cows were firm with the medium 2 & 3 score cows bringing 260 to 293 cents, while the prime heavy weights made 288 to 311 cents finishing the day averaging 300c/kg.

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to Wanaaring for the Brown Brothers off ’Nardoo Station’, who sold Santa cross bullocks for 260c/kg weighing in at 805kg making $2093.

To Nyngan now for John & Mary Burley off ‘Woodlands Station’, who sold Charolais cross heifers weighing 291kg for 412c/kg coming back at $1199.

Down the road to Warren for the McLaughlin family off ‘Merryanbone North’, who sold Charolais cross heifers that made 370c/kg, they weighed 462kg coming back at over $1710.

Now to Tooraweenah for the McWhirter family off ’Springfield’, who sold 4 tooth Angus steers weighing 548kg for 366c/kg and they came back at $2009.

And lastly to Geurie for Warren & Narelle Leven, who sold Angus steers for 419c/kg that weighed 365kg making $1530.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where after a dearer market last week numbers were up by almost 10,000.  It was another good quality yarding with a large percentage of Merino’s penned.

Trade lambs were firm selling from $121 - $163 to average between 630 to 650c/kg.  
Trade suckers were $5 dearer making from $134 to $169 where they averaged 670 to 730c/kg.
Heavy weight lambs were $10 dearer with the 24 to 30kg bringing $156 to $196, while the over 30kg lambs brought $198 to $230 averaging 630c/kg.  
Heavy weight suckers made $160 to $182.  
Merino lambs were firm with the trade weights selling from $119 to $160 while the over 24kgs making $148 to $172.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

Firstly to Tottenham for the Plummer family off ’Trigoona’, who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $163.

To Geurie now for Bob and Robin Hubbard off ‘Tanna’, who sold heavy crossbred suckers in a 3 & 4 score condition topping the sucker market at $182.

In the Wellington district now for Matt & Kylie Whale off ‘Glenroy’, who sold fresh 2nd cross suckers in a 2 & 3 condition for $145.

Still in Wellington for Stewart & Anne Edwards off ‘Westcourt’, who sold Merino wether lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition with a 1/2 inch skin for $122.

 

Now in the mutton pens, where it was a good quality yarding where all grades were firm.

Merino ewes made from $110 to $175, while crossbred ewes sold for $119 to $166.
Merino wethers sold from $128 to $176, with mutton averaging between 460 to 540c/kg.

Just a quick quote this week for Don & Jill Yeo off ‘Lambar’at Dubbo, who sold Dorper ewes in a 3 score condition for $143.
