Weekly Report

Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 4th week of March 2021.  Tallied numbers this week included –

   430 fat cattle
2,500 lambs and

  500 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a rain affected market which resulted in a very small yarding with only a few pens of cattle to suit the feeders and processors.

Young kill cattle were firm with prime vealers selling to a top of 460c/kg.  Prime steer yearlings brought 377 – 450 cents, while prime heifer yearlings made 370 - 430c/kg.  Feeder steers were dearer and heifers were stable.  Feeder steers brought 379 - 475c/kg while the feeder heifers made 370 - 441c/kg.

Young cattle to restock were dearer with steer weaners selling for 600c/kg while young restocker heifers sold to 575c/kg.  Grown steers and heifers were firm, with prime steers selling from 370 – 375 cents, while prime grown heifers brought 345 - 368c/kg.  Cows were 5 cents dearer, with the medium 3 score cows selling to 292c/kg while the prime heavy weights made 305 - 313c/kg, finishing the day averaging 310c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to Nyngan for John & Mary Burley off ‘Woodlands Station’, who sold well finished Santa cross heifers for 410c/kg weighing in at 375kg making $1537.

Lastly for a local vendor who sold a well bred line of Angus steers that weighed 409kg making 475c/kg bringing $1947.

On the same truck as the steers were the heifer portion that sold for 441c/kg and they weighed 397kg and came back at over $1752.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where again it was a rain affected market which limited the numbers of sheep able to make it to market and therefore drove prices up.  It was a good quality yarding with a good selection of some well finished heavy weight lambs and only the odd pen of trade weights.

Trade lambs were $12 - $15 dearer selling from $150 - $210 to average around 810- 850c/kg.  Heavy weight lambs were $10 - $20 dearer with the lambs 24kg - 30kg bringing $203 - $231 averaging about 805 - 822c/kg, and the over 30kgs bringing $245.  Limited pens of Merino lambs were dearer with trade weight lambs selling from $149 - $183 while one pen of heavier weights over 24kg made up to $223.

Now in the mutton pens, where it was a mixed yarding where all grades were $20 dearer. Merino ewes made from $100 - $215, while crossbred ewes sold for $148 - $250.  Merino wethers sold from $155 - $235 while a pen of crossbred wethers topped at $204.  Most of the sheep averaged between 660 - 720c/kg.

Well that about wraps it up for another week, please note Carter Lindsay Weber will be conducting a clearing sale on Saturday, April 10 at “Inverness” Hermidale commencing at 9.30am.
