Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of May 2020.
Tallied numbers this week included -
1900 Fat cattle
5300 lambs and
3600 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly were feeder and restocker cattle were in good supply. Grown steers and heifers were limited, as were cows. All usual buyers were in attendance in a dearer market.
Increased restocker demand saw prices rise up to 20 cents. Light steers sold from 450 – 540c/kg and the heifer portion sold from 360 – 480c/kg. Weight and breed quality the factor. Feeder cattle were well supplied and that increased demand at the rail. Feeder heifers sold from 352 – 410c/kg while the steer portion sold from 384 – 447c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers were limited this week with the best pen of aged bullocks making 327c/kg. Cows were in short supply, with cows going back to the paddock selling from 270 – 302c/kg and the best heavy cows making up to 316c/kg. The best heavy bull made 310 cents.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -
Firstly for the Skinner family of ‘Wembley Park’ at Dubbo, they sold Fresian cows for 283 cents, weighing 610kg to come back at $1755.
The Adams family of ‘St Louie’ at Mendooran, sold Charolais cross steers for 370 cents, weighing 410kg to return $1517.
The Phillips family of ‘Castle Hill’ at Baldry sold Angus cows for 301 cents, they weighed 522kg to come back at $1572.
The Roth family of ‘Gullamara’ at Mudgee, sold 4 tooth Hereford bullocks for 340 cents, weighing 436kg to return $1484.
The Robinson family at Coonamble sold milk tooth Angus steers for 336 cents, weighing 663kg to return an impressive $2230.
And for John and Mary Burley of ‘Woodlands Station’ at Nyngan, who sold Angus cows for 300 cents, weighing a massive 700kg to return $2100.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where most weights and grades were represented in a fair quality yarding, with not all regular buyers being in attendance.
Light weight lambs to the processors were $5 cheaper and sold from $110 to $165. Trade weight lambs saw little change this week to average between 780-830c/kg or $170 to $210. Heavy weight lambs were $15 to 20 cheaper and sold from $194 to $255.
Merino lambs were also cheaper with trade weights selling to $165, while a single small pen of heavy weights sold for $232. Restocker lambs sold from $130 to $170, while hoggets sold to a top of $201.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Firstly in Dubbo for Doug and Lorna Bambrick of ‘Moolakar’, who sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $185.
The Galley family of ‘Oakdale’ sold heavy trade 1st cross lambs with a ½ inch skin for $198.
Phillip Hubbard of ‘Kainga’ at Wellington, sold extra heavy first cross lambs in a 4 score condition with a ½ skin for $225.
To Molong now where the Bateman family of ‘Tantallon’, sold trade weight White Suffolk cross lambs in a 3 score condition for $195.
The Jackson family of ‘Pinehill’ sold heavy trade crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition for $190 to a southern processor.
For the Pocknell family from ‘Springvale Station’ at Walgett who sold Dorper ram lambs in 3 score condition for $142.
Into the mutton pens now where numbers were up considerably for a plainer quality yarding where most grades remained firm.
Light weight ewes sold from $80 to 130.
Medium weight ewes sold from $150 to 190 depending on skin length and frame.
Heavy weight ewes sold from $210 to $259.
Light wethers made from $105 to $135.
Medium weight wethers sold from $140 to $180.
Heavy weight wethers sold from $198 to $243.
Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following sheep for their clients -
Craig and Kerry Walters of ‘Plain Creek’ at Wongarbon sold Merino ewes with an October skin for $244.
The Johnston family of ‘Komoora’ at Geurie, sold Merino wethers in a 2 score condition to the restocker for $120.
The Clarke family of “Mehruda” at Bakers Swamp, sold medium weight Merino ewes with a 6 month skin to the domestic kill for $184.
