Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Steve Gay taking a look at the week’s livestock markets from Dubbo.

Yesterday’s cattle sale saw a full field of buyers operating on 1200 head in a firm market.

Young lightweight steers to the restockers topped at 596 cents and averaged 575c/kg whilst heifers averaged 522c/kg.

Yearling steers to the trade processors sold from 345 to 409 cents and averaged 401c/kg.

Medium weight feeder steers sold to a top of 425 cents, heifers sold to a top of 390 cents and averaged 404 and 366 cents respectively.
Heavy finished steers to the butchers peaked between 336 and 360c/kg

Light cows to restockers sold from 274 to 290c/kg and heavy cows topped at 306c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following stock for their clients -
John and Mary Burley from Nyngan sold heavy Angus cows for 292 cents, they weighed 607kg to return $1772.
Brett and Sophie Fitzgerald of Dubbo sold heavy Angus feeder steers weighing 495kg for 369 cents returning $1827.
The O’Neill family from Trangie, sold Black Baldy steers to the backgrounder for 408 cents, they weighed 330kg to come back at $1347.
We had some exceptional finished cattle in our run out of the feedlot, with some Charolais cross heifers weighing 424kg making 389 cents, coming back at $1653.

Fat Sheep & Lamb

Monday’s sheep sale saw a greater improvement in the quality of lambs.  There were 5130 lambs and 1870 grown mutton.  The sale got stronger towards the back end with buyers keen to fill trucks on heavier trade weight lambs.  Mutton prices were firm.

Lambs to restockers were still strong selling between $155 and $188.

Trade weight lambs sold from $190 to $211, and heavy lambs topped at $272.

Restockers paid up to $160 for old Merino ewes and lightweight sheep to the processors in plain condition sold from $70 to $110.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following stock for their clients -
Col Ryan from Gulargambone sold a draft of his trade weight (22-24kg-cwt) Merino White Suffolk cross lambs for $202.
Cameron and Kylie Beard from Geurie sold heavy Dohne cross lambs for $224.
Don and Jill Yeo from Dubbo sold heavy 2nd cross lambs for $254.
We also had a client from the Coonamble district sell well finished White Dorper lambs to a local butcher for $210.
