Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd last week of May 2020. Tallied numbers this week included –
1150 fat cattle
7000 lambs and
1700 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a good quality yarding with a very good selection of trade cattle. Cows and grown heifers being well supplied and only limited pens of grown steers.
Trade cattle were 5 cents dearer with prime steers selling to 412 cents while the prime heifers sold from 378 to 409 cents. Feeder steers and heifers gained 5 cents with feeder steers making between 368 to 421c/kg with the feeder heifers sold from 360 to 395c/kg. Young restocker calves continued to sell to strong trends with the steer calves selling to 570c/kg and the heifer calves selling to a top of 536c/kg.
Prime grown steers and heifers were 10 cents dearer, with the steers selling from 308 to 360 cents, while the heifer portion sold from 301 to 369c/kg. Cows were 4 cents dearer, with heavy weight 3 & 4 score cows selling from 290 to 322 cents and average 308c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows brought from 234 to 302c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to the Bourke district for Mick & Michaela Fisher off ‘Kilberoo’, who sold Angus cross bullocks weighing 562kg for 330 cents coming back at $1857.
Still in the Bourke district for Callum & Caroline Robinson off ‘Ellerslie’, who sold Angus cross feeder steers for 435 cents weighing 310kg making $1349.
Now to Geurie for Elwyn & Rachel Perry off ‘Allandale’, who sold young Angus cross Santa steers to the restocker for 475 cents weighing 201kg bringing $957.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where there was a better quality yarding on a small yarding. Most of the usual buyers were in attendance and operating.
Trade weight lambs were $5 to $10 dearer making from $170 to $205. Heavy weight lambs were $10 to $15 better selling between $200 and $263. Lightweight lambs to kill were firm and sold from $130 to $160 while restocks sold to similar trends as previous sales with not many on offer making $120 to $160.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Firstly to Nyngan for the Hoare family off ‘Bel-Air’, who sold heavy crossbred lambs with a 1/2 inch skin for $202.
Now to Geurie for the Beard family, who sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with a 1 inch skin for $230.
In the same district for Phil Hubbard off ‘Kainga’, who sold Dorset cross Merino lambs in a 3 score condition for $214.
Now in the mutton pens, where it was a mixed yarding with restockers being strong and anything suited to go back to the paddock, with all grades holding firm to average 660 to 750c/kg.
Lightweight Merino ewes sold from $85 to $130 with medium weight ewes making $145 to $180 while heavy weight ewes toped at $245. Wethers this week topped out at $226.
Just a quick quote this week for The Herbert Family from Nyngan, who sold crossbred wethers in a 3 score condition, with a ¼ inch skin for $216.
