Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of July 2021. Tallied numbers this week included –
2700 fat cattle
20700 lambs and
4300 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a mixed quality yarding on offer with good lines of cattle for both processors and feeders alongside a few runs of plain Bos Indicus cross cattle.
Young kill cattle were firm with prime vealers selling to a top of 554c/kg. Prime steer yearlings brought 449 – 536 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 428 - 552c/kg. Feeder steers and feeder heifers were 5 cents cheaper with feeder steers selling from 442 - 559c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 431 - 538c/kg. Young steers to the restock sold from 536 - 750c/kg, while the heifer portion made 484 - 670c/kg. Grown steers and grown heifers were 5 cents dearer, with prime grown steers selling from 378 - 474c/kg, while prime grown heifers brought 415 - 456c/kg. Cows saw no change, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 285 - 344c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 337 - 394c/kg finishing the day averaging 372c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly to Brewarrina for the Kesby family off “The Rocks”, who sold well finished Hereford cross steers that made 506c/kg and weighed in at 450kg coming back at $2280.
Down the road to Nyngan for the Carter family off “Birrimba”, who sold well bred Santa steers weighed 536kg, bringing 459c/kg making $2464.
Over to Baradine now for the Beveridge family off “Gleneve”, who sold young Angus steer calves for 577c/kg, weighing 320kg coming back at $1851.
Lastly to Mendooran for the Adams family off “St Louie”, who sold a line of well bred Friesian steers to the restocker that weighed 309kg making 409c/kg coming back at over $1266.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was a very good quality yarding with some large runs of heavy weight lambs alongside only a small amount of neat trade weights. There was a few suckers penned with good numbers of Merino’s as well, but not in the quality they were the week prior, with all buyers in attendance and operating.
Trade lambs were $10 dearer with quality being a factor selling from $170 - $258 to average around 920 - 1000c/kg. Trade weight new season lambs sold for $185 - $ 228. Heavy weight lambs were $15 dearer with lambs 24kg - 30kg bringing $221 - $289 and the lambs over 30kgs sold from $266 - $320 to average 880c/kg. Merino lambs were also slightly dearer with trade weights making from $150 - $213 and the heavy weight Merino’s over 24kg brought $195 - $257.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Firstly to Coolabah for the Dunn family off “Bundong”, who sold well finished crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition, to the supermarket order for $242.
Down the highway to Nyngan for the Hoare family off “Karabran”, who sold well bred and well finished SAMM lambs in a 4 score condition with a half inch skin for $282.
Across to Warren now for the Cosgrove Family off “Wirrilahlee”, who sold Dohne lambs with an inch skin, in a 3 & 4 score condition for $210.
In the Gulargambone district for Col Ryan off “Mayfield”, who sold neat trade weight crossbred lambs with an inch skin to the supermarket order for $248.
Lastly to Wellington now for the Deshon family off “Rocklee”, who sold young Aussie White suckers in a fresh condition for $218.
Into the mutton pens now, where it was a mostly good quality yarding which resulted in a strong market. All grades were up to $10 - $15 dearer. Merino ewes sold from $113 - $238 and the crossbred ewes made $135 - $250. Merino wethers selling from $132 - $256, most of the sheep averaged between 660 - 720c/kg.

Quickly to Coolabah for the Edwards family off “Tubbavilla”, who sold well bred Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for $230.
At Nyngan for the George family off “The Corners”, who sold heavy Merino ewes, bare shorn to the local exporter for $223.
Lastly to Geurie now for the Whillock family off “Maxland”, who sold a nice run of heavy crossbred ewes with a 2 inch skin for $200.
