Fat Cattle Report

Good morning everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this weeks livestock markets out of Dubbo for the first week of August 2021.  Tallied numbers included –

  2400 fat cattle
32500 lambs
 5000 mutton and
   800 store cattle

Into the cattle pens firstly where it was a plainer yarding of cattle with a large majority being Bos Indicus drafts.  The market in general was fully firm for all British cross cattle with any cattle lacking finish or teeth up to 7 cents cheaper on what is still a strong market.

Vealer steers in short supply and mainly to restockers 540 to 667 cents, vealer heifers also to restockers 512 to 566 cents.

Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 450 to 486 cents for the crossbred drafts or 487 to 546 cents for the British drafts.  Heavier drafts over 400kg also to feedlotters 460 to 500 cents for crossbreds/Bos Indicus drafts, or 472 to 542 cents for British drafts.  Kill drafts saw most sales between 420 and 550 cents.

Yearling heifers under 400kg were in shorter supply with drafts to kill 398 to 526 cents, with feeder drafts 412 to 530 cents. Heavier drafts over 400kg to feed 436 to 527 cents.

Into export sales, with young bullocks in shorter supply making between 420 and 466 cents, with older bullocks seeing sales between 419 and 445 cents.  Export heifers up to 500kg 265 to 388 cents, with the top end being younger, with heavier drafts over 500kg 386 to 450 cents, with the top end being 2-4 teeth.

Boner cows 220 to 250 cents, medium weight cows 298 to 352 cents, with some restocker drafts making up to 373 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 349 and 390 cents and this week topping at 414 cents.

Carter Lindsay and Weber had the following results for their clients -

Firstly, locally to Wellington for Viv and Suzie White of “Three Rivers”, who sold young Hereford cross heifers to kill, with their 2 teeth for 440 cents, they weighed 535kg and they came back at $2355.

For the Hughes family of “Gullendah” at Yeoval, who sold Shorthorn cross heifers, with their 2 teeth to kill for 428 cents, they weighed 550kg and they came back at $2355.

Locally, for Ray & Leonie Crook who sold heavy feeder steers for 543 cents and weighed 460kg to come back at $2510.

The Skinner family off “Wembley Park”, sold large framed Friesian cows for 298 cents, they weighed 630kg and came back at $1870.

And lastly for the Leven family from Gulgong, who sold Angus cross cows for 395 cents, they weighed 675kg and these top cows came back at $2675.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now where it was a larger number yarded on the back of a good market and carry overs from many weeks of wet weather.  The market in general was $10 to $12 cheaper, but bearing in mind the week prior was extremely strong on what I believe was still a very strong market.

Into suckers firstly with lighter restocker drafts $174 to $191 with heavier drafts up to $208. Trade weights to kill $205 to $218
With export weights $220 to $238 generally and topping at $240.

To older crossbred sales light kill types up to 16kg dressed $120 to $140
Up to 18kg dressed $138 to $146
Light trade $145 to $180
Medium trade $172 to $218
Heavy trade or light export $210 to $245
With export weights up to 30kg dressed $225 to $250 generally and up to $294
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $288 to $300 and this week topping at $320.

Merino sales up to 16kg dressed $110 to $138
Up to 18kg dressed $136 to $138
Light trade $150 to $180
Medium trade $160 to $200
Heavy trade $163 to $214
With export weights $225 to $258.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Firstly, for the Edwards family off “Catombal Park” at Wellington, who sold export weight Merino lambs with a 4 week skin, in a trim 3 score condition and these top lambs made $240.

The Whillock family off “Maxland” at Geurie, sold trade weight 2nd cross lambs with a ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $214.

At Baradine for the Finlay family off “Kinross”, who sold tidy trade weight Dorper lambs for $174.

To Trangie for the Broughton family, who sold export weight Merino lambs with a ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition and they made $258.

At Albert for Bob and Robyn Smart off “Tullarook”, who sold heavy trade weight Merino lambs with an inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $200.

At Tottenham for Phillip and Melinda Mills of “Warrah”, who sold export weight first cross lambs in a 4 score condition, with an inch skin for $258.

At Nyngan for the Hoare family off “Bel Air”, who sold export weight SAMM lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin and these top lambs made $250.

To Hermidale for Jon and Helen Matchett of “Budgery”, who sold export weight second cross lambs in a 4 score condition, with a 4 week skin and these top lambs made $287.

While for the Dewhurst family off “Elmsley”, who sold export weight 2nd cross lambs in a 4 score condition, with a ¼ inch skin and these top lambs made $299.

Into the mutton pens where like the lambs the market was slightly off the pace compared to the previous week on the back off a very strong market and although cheaper, still very strong.

Medium weight ewes $131 to $168 for mainly Merino’s
Export weights $142 to $203 for crossbreds or $165 to $210 for Merino’s
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $209 to $233 for crossbreds or $191 to $250 for Merino’s.

To wethers medium weights $136 to $176 and mainly Merino’s
Export weights $173 to $200 for crossbreds or $178 to $230 for Merino’s
With heavy weights over 30kg dressed up to $230 for Merino’s or $236 for crossbreds.

Just a quick quote for Skimmer and Roz George of “The Corners” at Nyngan, who sold large framed Merino ewes with a ¼ inch skin, in a 3 score condition to the exporters and these top ewes made $199.
