Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of July. Tallied numbers this week included -
1700 fat cattle
19000 lambs and
6000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly where there was a good selection of grown steers, heifers and cows. Crossbred yearlings were also well supplied however trade and ideal feeder weights were limited. All the usual buyers were in attendance and operating.
Young cattle to the trade gained 15 cents with prime yearlings selling from 488 to 546c/kg. Prime steer yearlings sold from 430 to 536c/kg, while prime heifer yearlings sold from 430 to 540c/kg. Feeder steer and heifers were 10 cents dearer, as the steers sold from 510 to 584c/kg and the heifers sold from 475 to 530c/kg. Young cattle to the restockers again go from strength to strength, with a pen of young steers reaching a top of 740 cents, estimated to weigh 210kg.
Grown steers and heifers lifted by 15 to 23 cents. Prime grown steers sold from 374 to 458c/kg, while the heifers sold from 360 to 437c/kg. Cows again keep lifting, as the better prime cows sold from 323 to 387c/kg, a new centre record. The best heavy bull reached a top of 344c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -
Locally for the Koerstz family of “Warrie” in Dubbo, who sold milk tooth Angus cross bullocks for 521 cents, weighing 562kg to return $2930.
Elwyn & Rachel Perry of “Allandale” at Geurie, sold Brahman heifers to the feedlot terms for 380 cents, weighing 403kg to come back at $1533.
To Trangie for Bob and Robin Smart of “Tullarook”, who sold Murray Grey bullocks for 493 cents, they weighed 531kg to come back at $2618.
The O’Neill family of “Nellady”, sold Angus cross steers for 538 cents, they weighed 470kg to return $2529.
Stephen Kent of “Kurrajong Park” at Tottenham sold Santa Gertrudis cross heifers for 430 cents, weighing 575kg to return $2472.
The Dunn Family of “Bundong Station” at Coolabah, sold Romagnola cows for 380 cents, weighing an impressive 720kg to return $2737.
And lastly for Sid Colling at Cobar, who sold Hereford steers for 480 cents, weighing 460kg to return $2208.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now and what a market it was. A mixed yarding with good numbers of heavy weights, both crossbred and Merino’s were on offer. Limited numbers of trade weights were penned for a full field of buyers in a dearer market.
Trade lambs were $8 dearer selling from $180 - $240 or 850 - 940c/kg carcass weight which is better than any hook rate at the moment. Heavy weight lambs lifted $12 to sell from $218 - $268, while the extra heavy weights sold from $272 - $319. Merino lambs were $12 stronger as the trade weights sold from $168 - $215 while the heavies made from $220 - $276. The best heavy hoggets reached a top of $245.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Locally for David Brown at Oakdene Road in Dubbo, who sold Dorper wether lambs in a 3 score condition for $187.
Anna Toohey of “Fella Park”, sold crossbred lambs in a 3 and 4 score condition with an inch skin to the exporters for $283.
The Whale Family of “Glenroy” at Wellington, sold 2nd cross lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $180.
To Nyngan now and for the Smith Family of “Box Cowal”, who sold SAMM lambs in a 4 score condition, with an inch skin, that were the size of small ponies, for a sale topping and 2021 selling centre top price of $319.
The Hoare Family of “Karabran”, sold their usual run of SAMM lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition, properly presented for $288.
The Gibson Family of “Wilgadale”, sold Merino wether lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $187.
And lastly for the Matchett family of “Budgery” at Hermidale, who sold trade weight crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition, well shorn for $213.
Into the mutton pens now where the market remained firm on last week’s good rates.
Light ewes sold from $100 - $130
Medium weight ewes sold from $145 - $176
Heavy weight ewes sold from $181 - $230
Light wethers sold from $120 - $139
Medium weight wethers sold from $145 - $170
Heavy wethers sold from $190 - $231.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -
Locally for the Pilon family of “Chloe”, who sold heavy crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition to the exporters for $218.
And for Rick & Ruth Reid of “Kimbriki” at Coolabah, who sold CFA Merino Rams in a 3 score condition for $143.
