Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of August, 2021. Tallied numbers this week included -
2100 fat cattle
23000 lambs and
5400 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly where a good quality yarding was on offer. Ideal feeder weights along with well finished trade cattle were penned as were a good selection of cows.
Young cattle to the trade were 10 cents dearer with prime vealers selling to 540 cents. Prime steer yearlings, 430 – 550 cents, while prime heifer yearlings sold from 436 - 556c/kg. Feeder steers were 12 cents better, selling from 420 - 559c/kg as the feeder heifers remained firm to sell from 400 - 528c/kg.
No change on grown cattle this week, with steers selling from 400 - 452c/kg and the grown heifers making 400 - 460c/kg. Cows were 8 cents stronger, with the better D3/4 cows selling to a top of 410 cents. The best heavy bull reached 342 cents.
Just a couple of quick quotes this week for our clients -
The Crothers family of “Grandchester” at Mendooran, sold Limousin steers for 510 cents, weighing 343kgs to return $1753.
And for the McConaughty family of “Elstow” at Baradine, who sold Charolais heifers for 438 cents, they weighed 492kgs to return $2158.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where a very good quality yarding was on offer. Merino lambs took up the majority of the pens this week, and the usual lines of crossbred trades and heavies were also on offer. All the usual buyers were operating in a slightly cheaper market.
Trade lambs eased $4 to sell from $173 - $235. A handful of new season lambs were penned with the trade weights selling from $190 - $233, while the heavier pens reached $240. Heavy weight lambs lost $8 to sell from $219 - $280, while the extra heavies sold from $293 - $310.
Trade weight Merino lambs were $10 cheaper and ranged from $155 - $210, as the heavy weights sold from $216 - $259. The best heavy hoggett reached $212.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
The Whillock Family of “Maxland” at Geurie, sold fresh 2nd cross suckers to the supermarket orders for $205.
The Altus Family of “Albion Hills” at Wongarbon, sold fresh Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition for $170.
Matt & Clancy Paine of “Wongaroo” at Narromine, sold 1st cross lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $223.
The Walker Family of “Gillendoon” at Warren, sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition, with an inch skin for $239.
Steve & Kim Gough of “Keewong” at Coonamble, sold 1st cross wether lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $170
And lastly for The Dewhurst Family of “Elmsley” at Hermidale, who sold heavy 1st cross White Suffolk lambs in an 4 score condition, with an inch skin for $289.
Into the mutton pens now, where all grades were represented in a mixed yarding.
Light ewes sold from $108 - $142
Medium weight ewes sold from $156 - $185
Heavy weight ewes sold from $190 - $245.
Light wethers sold from $93 - $134
Medium weight wethers sold from $148 - $193
Heavy wethers sold from $200 - $273.
Just a quick quote for Tom & Margot Elder of “Woorndoo” at Nyngan, who sold heavy Merino ewes in a 4 score condition for $203.
