Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of August 2021.

Tallied numbers this week included –

2000 fat cattle
16,700 lambs and
3500 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a good offering of young cattle to suit both kill and feed orders. Alongside good lines of grown steers and heifers as well as some very well finished cows penned.

Young kill cattle were 10c dearer with prime vealers selling to a top of 560c/kg. Prime steer yearlings brought 440c - 557c and the prime yearling heifers made 420 - 562c/kg. Feeder steers saw no change while the feeder heifers were 10c dearer with Feeder steers selling from 460 - 562c/kg while the feeder heifers made 480c - 540c/kg. Young steers to the restock sold from 470 - 699c/kg while the heifer portion made 482 - 590c/kg. Grown steers gained 6c and grown heifers lost 8c, with prime grown steers selling from 420 - 456c/kg while prime grown heifers brought 400 - 445c/kg. Cows were 10 - 15c dearer, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 330 - 386c/kg while the prime heavy weights made 359 - 427c/kg finishing the day averaging 403c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly to Nymagee for the Weston family off “Yalgo”, who sold, well bred and exceptionally well finished Hereford cross cows that made 415c/kg and weighed in at 745kg coming back at $3091/head.

To Coolabah now for the Dunn Family off “Bundong”, who sold well finished Charolais cross cows that weighed 560kg making 388c/kg making $2172.

Down the road to Nyngan for the Carter family off “Fairview” who sold, well bred Angus steers weighed 575kg to the heavy feed order for 456c/kg making $2623/head.

Lastly to Dubbo for the Clatworthy family off “Mia Mia”, who sold, well bred Angus steers to the restocker that weighed 348kg making 555c/kg coming back at over $1933.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a mixed quality yarding with some large runs of heavy weight lambs alongside only a small amount of neat trade weights. There were a few suckers penned with good numbers of Merinos as well. Trade lambs were $5 dearer with quality being a factor selling from $142 - $250 to average around 875c - 925c/kg. Trade weight new season lambs were $10 - $15 dearer and sold for $165 - $257. Heavy weight lambs were firm with lambs 24kg - 30kg brought $220 - $286 and the lambs over 30kgs sold from $280 - $314. Merino lambs were also $10 dearer with trade weights making from $138 - $215 and the heavy weight Merinos over 24kg brought $200 - $260.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -

Firstly to Tottenham for the Cook family off “Glenidol”, who sold, well bred Merino lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition with a freshly shorn pelt for $241.

In the Dubbo district now for the Toohey family, who sold, well finished crossbred lambs the in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for $303.

For the Yeo Family off “Lambar”, who sold, well bred crossbred lambs with an inch skin in a 4 score condition for $299.

Still in Dubbo for Ross Yeo off “Lambar”, who sold neat trade weight crossbred suckers in a fresh condition to the domestic kill order for $192.

Down the Highway to Geurie for Phillip Hubbard off “Kainga”, who sold, heavy weight crossbred lambs with an inch skin for $250.

Lastly to Wellington now for the Whale family off “Glenroy”, who sold, young 2nd cross suckers in a fresh condition to the restock for $175.

Into the mutton pens now, where it was a mostly good quality yarding which resulted in Merino sheep saw no change and crossbreed sheep lost $5 - $10. Merino ewes sold from $102 - $227 and the crossbred ewes made $120 - $215. Merino wethers selling from $104 - $233.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -

Quickly to Hermidale for the Matchett family off “Budgery”, who sold, well bred crossbred wethers in a 5 score condition with a half inch skin for $220.

At Wellington on the same truck as the lambs for the Whale family off “Glenroy”, who sold, Heavy merino ewes with a big 2 inch skin to the southern exporter for $190.
