Fat Cattle Report

Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the third week of July, 2020.  Tallied numbers this week included –

1700 fat cattle
9500 lambs
2200 mutton and
1500 store cattle

Into the cattle pens firstly, where a plainer yarding than last week was on offer and some prices reflected that.  All the usual buyers were in attendance, however not all were operating fully.

Weaner steers remained firm – selling from 380 to 480 cents, with breed and condition a factor.  Weaner heifers sold to limited demand ranging from 330 to 400 cents.  Feeder steers were in short supply and lost 20 cents in places – selling from 368 to 418 cents, while the feeder heifers ranged from 350 to 387 cents.

Grown cattle were scarce as the steers reached a top of 380 cents for the British Breds and 360 cents for the crossbreds.  Grown heifers ranged from 310 to 350 cents.  The cows that were on offer this week were not of the same quality of last week and prices reflected that – selling from 282 to 306 cents.  The best heavy bull reached a top of 322 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

The Skinner Family of “Wembley Park” at Dubbo, sold Fresian cows for 259 cents, weighing 588kg to return $1524.

Trade weight lambs were $5 dearer this week – selling from $170 to $199 with presentation being responsible for the dearer prices.

Heavy weight lambs were in good supply – lifting $8 this week to range from $192 to $223.

The best heavy hoggets reached $186.

Into the mutton pens now, where numbers were back yet prices remained firm on last week.
