Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Steve Gay taking a look at the markets for the week out of Dubbo.

To yesterdays cattle report, where agents yarded 3100 head in a mixed yarding. There were big lines of second quality store conditioned cattle from the far northern and western parts of our great land.  Overall the market was generally 10 to 20 cents cheaper on all grades with the exception of all cow grades. 

Best heavy cows averaged 302 cents and sold to a top of 324c/kg.

Restockers paid up to 320 cents for plain cows and they averaged between $1000 and $1120 for the better cows back to the paddock.

Feeder steers were back by around 20 cents, to top at 420 cents for Angus steers.  All other breeds averaged mostly between 370 to 390c/kg.
The biggest fall on the day was the heavy heifers to kill. Most of the top lines peaked between 340 and 350 cents, a fall of around 20c/kg.

Prime yearling steers to butchers topped at 410 cents and the heifers reached 400 cents.

Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -

From the Geurie district, Sam and Penny Deshon sold Angus cross heifers for 388 cents, they weighed 392kg and returned $1523.

The Millner family sold fat Charolais cross heifers for 355 cents, weighing 499kg to come back at $1772.

The Roth family from Mudgee sold finished 4 tooth Hereford steers to the butcher for 345 cents, they weighed 458kg to return $1580.

And for John and Mary Burley from Nyngan, who sold well covered Brahman cross cows for 295 cents, they weighed 447kg to come back at $1320.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Agents yarded 9500 lambs and 3200 grown sheep on Monday, in a very typical yarding with all grades and quality penned. The market seemed to be pretty similar to the previous week when prices dropped across most categories. However, heavy lambs continued to fall by between $10 and $20.

Heavy crossbred lambs sold to a top of $215, trade weight crossbred lambs sold between $155 and $185.

Merino lambs to the restockers sold from $102 to $134.  Trade weight Dorper lambs were well supplied and averaged between $164 and $173.  Restockers paid up to $265 for a nice pen of 1st cross ewe lambs, and $276 for a pen of Aussie White cross ewe lambs.  Store lamb prices were firm to average between $133 and $161.

Carter Lindsay and Weber sold the following sheep and lambs for their clients -

Stuart and Ann Edwards from Dripstone, sold short wool Merino ewes in a 3 score condition for $160.

Michael and Jocelyn Hoare from Nyngan, sold 1st cross lambs with a 1 inch skin weighing over 55kgs for $184.

Bruce and Vicki Lees sold an exceptional draft of 2nd cross lambs for $200.  You would struggle to find better lambs than these on any given day.

Ben Deshon from Lightning Ridge, sold medium trade weight Dorper lambs for $166.

And for Paul and Carmel Quinn from Dubbo, who sold heavy Dorper lambs for $175.
