Weekly Report

Fat Cattle Report 

Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 3rd week of September 2020.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  2300 fat cattle
20000 lambs
  4000 mutton and
  1200 store cattle

Into the cattle pens firstly, where although a smaller yarding the quality was very good on a fully firm to dearer market for all categories.  

Vealer steers and heifers this week were in shorter supply, but still very strong making 410 to 508 cents for steers or 405 to 458 cents for heifers.  Young trade kill cattle were fully firm making 400 to 428 cents for heifers or 410 to 436 cents for steers.  Yearling steers under 400kg to feedlotters 375 to 420 cents with the top end mainly being Angus drafts, with kill drafts making 386 to 419 cents, with heavier weights over 400kg to feedlotters 370 to 413 cents, with kill drafts 359 to 401 cents.  Yearling heifers under 400kg to processors made between 365 to 432 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg to kill 330 to 405 cents.

Into export sales, heavy feeder steers up to 500kg making from 388 to 397 cents, young bullocks 330 to 385 cents generally and topping at 390 cents, with heavy weights over 600kg making 329 to 385 cents.  Medium weight cows made 242 to 290 cents, with heavy high yielding cows 284 to 302 cents generally and topping at 309 cents.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

Firstly, locally for Paul Vernon from Wellington, who sold Angus cross steers to feedlotters for 380 cents, they weighed 470kg and they came back at $1790.

The Atkinson Family of “Wonga” at Yeoval, sold young Santa bullocks for 357 cents, they weighed 580kg and these top steers came back at $2065.

For a local Geurie client – large framed Shorthorn cows that weighed 750kg made 308 cents and these top cows returned $2300.

At Nyngan for John & Mary Burley of “Woodlands Station”, who sold Angus cross steers for 400 cents, they weighed 270kg and these top young steers came back at $1090.

And for the Keating Family of “Neurea Plains”, who sold Red Angus cross steers that weighed 405kg for 386 cents to feedlotters and they came back at $1565.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report 

Into the lamb pens now, where there was a similar number yarded on what was a very good quality yarding and in return the market generally was $5 to $10 dearer.

Into new season or suckers firstly $140 to $175 generally with the heavy end making up to $183
Into crossbred sales, with trade weights $132 to $170, with the Merino portion $137 to $166
Heavy weight crossbred lambs $152 to $215
With super heavies well in excess of 30kg dressed topping at $233, with the Merino portion seeing sales between $150 and $180.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –

Firstly, locally at Geurie for the Whillock Family of “Maxland”, who sold fresh trade weight suckers – unshorn and well rounded for $154.

The Johnston Family of “Komoora”, sold unshorn 2nd cross suckers – well rounded to the heavy trade butchers and these top lambs made $160.

To Wellington for The Whale Family of “Glenroy”, who also sold suckers to the light trade butchers and these top lambs made $140.

Paul Vernon sold light export lambs with a ½ inch skin, in a 3 score condition and they made $185.

To Tottenham for The Plummer Family of “Trigoona’, who sold trade weight Merino lambs in a 3 score condition, with an 8 week skin and well rounded and these tidy lambs made $150.

And for Doug & David Cowden of “Boomi” at Albert, who sold 2nd cross export weight lambs with a 6 week skin, in a 4 score condition for a market topping $233.

Into the mutton pens now, where like the lambs it was a good quality yarding – also selling to a dearer trend.

Boner ewes $90 to $108
Medium weights $115 to $135 for crossbreds or $126 to $144 for Merino’s
Heavy weight crossbred ewes $165 to $188, with the Merino portion $138 to $173 and topping at $190
Some excellent quality wethers yarded with medium weights $115 to $146
Export weights $165 to $188 for crossbreds or $138 to $173 for Merino’s
With some super heavy drafts this week – over 30kg dressed $170 to $190 for Merino’s or $180 to $188 for crossbreds.
