Fat Cattle Report
Good morning this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports for the 4th week of October. Tallied numbers this week included -
2100 fat cattle
12000 lambs and
3500 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where a good quality yarding was on offer with plenty of prime young cattle and properly finished grown steers and heifers. Cow quality was not to the standards of the previous week and with rain over some parts of the supply area, numbers were reduced.
Young cattle to the trade were 10 cents dearer, as the vealer steers sold to 429c/kg and the heifers reached 435c/kg. Steer yearlings sold from 360 to 417c/kg, as the heifer portion ranged from 370 to 401c/kg. Feeder cattle were well supplied and lifted 8 cents, as the heifers sold to 401c/kg and the steers selling to 418c/kg. Weaner cattle were very limited in supply this week. Restockers were very active on what was there, which saw prices range from 485 to 545c/kg for the steers and up to 500c/kg for the heifers.
Grown cattle were cheaper, down by 10 cents in places. Steers sold from 310 to 375c/kg and the heifers sold from 320 to 366c/kg. Cows remained firm, selling from 245 to 282c/kg for medium weights, while the heavy weight cows sold from 288 to 314c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 325c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Locally for the Skinner family of “Wembley Park” who sold Fresian cows for 258 cents, weighing 639kg to return $1649.
The Vaughan family of “Iona” at Yeoval sold Angus steers for 388 cents, they weighed 520kg to return $2018.
The Kirby family of “Winchester” at Molong sold Angus steers for 418 cents, weighing 445kg to return $1860.
The Harvey Family of “Glenhaven” at Coonamble sold a top line of Angus steers for 397 cents, weighing 535kg to come back at $2125.
Denis Todd of “Wheatfields” at Baradine, sold Shorthorn steers for 392 cents, weighing 482kg to return $1894.
And lastly for Jack & Dione Carter of “Innaminna” at Nyngan, who sold sale topping Speckle Park cows for 314 cents, they weighed 620kg to return $1950.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where a quality yarding with a good selection of trade and heavy weight new season lambs as well as nice runs of heavy Merino and crossbred lambs where on offer in a dearer market.
New season trade weight lambs were $10 dearer, selling from $152 to $185. New season heavy weight lambs sold from $175 to $214. Old season lambs were up to $12 better this week, selling from $138 to $182 and the heavy weights also pick up $9 to sell from $188 to $228. Merino lambs rose $13 with the trade weights making between $132 and $165 and the heavy weights making $175 to $205. The best heavy hogget sold to $170.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Locally for Paul and Carmel Quinn of “Karoo” who sold Dorper lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition to the export kill for $185.
The Johnston family of “Komoora” at Geurie sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 3 & 4 score condition for $198.
Bob & Robin Hubbard of “Tanna” at Wellington sold heavy crossbred suckers in a fresh 4 score condition for $188.
To Tottenham now for the Cook Family of “Glenidol” who sold very well covered Merino lambs in a 4 score condition to the export markets for $193.
The Plummer family of “Trigoona” sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition and a 12 week skin to the domestic kill for 163.
Col Ryan of “Mayfield” at Gulargambone sold fresh light weight suckers for $136.
The Pickette family of “Ellerslie” at Baradine sold Merino lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition and an 8 week skin for $150.
And lastly for the Pocknell family of “Springvale Station” at Walgett, who sold Dorper lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $145.
Into the mutton pens now, where there were some outstanding sheep penned in a quality yarding, however Merino’s lost $5 while the crossbreds lost $15.
Light weight ewes sold from $77 to $95
Medium weight ewes sold from $115 to $150
Heavyweight ewes sold from $159 to $182
Light weight wethers sold from $109 to $125
Medium weight wethers sold from $138 to $170
Heavy wethers sold from $178 to $200
Just a quick quote for the Whale family of “Glenroy” at Wellington, who sold crossbred ewes in a 3 & 4 score condition, to the heavy kill for $168.
