Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon, this is Shaun McHugh taking a look at the weekly livestock markets out of Dubbo for the last week of February. Tallied numbers this week included -
1500 fat cattle
10630 lambs and
7400 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a good selection of young cattle to suit feeders and processors and a fair selection of cows were also yarded. Young cattle to the trade were 12 cents dearer with prime vealers selling from 431 to 482c/kg. Prime steer yearlings ranged from 370 to 476c/kg while to prime heifers sold from 430 to 466c/kg. Feeder steers sold from 395 to 484c/kg while feeder heifers reached 466c/kg. Young restocker steers sold to 655 cents and heifers made 579 c/kg.
Grown steers were 8 cents dearer, ranging from 330 to 396c/kg while the grown heifers sold to 380 cents. Cows remained firm with the better D3/4 cows selling from 290 to 313c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 322 c/kg.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients -
Locally for Paul & Carmel Quinn of “Caroo” at Dubbo, who sold Charolais cross steers for 442 cents, weighing 440kg to come back at $1949.
Warren Piper of “Cabin Downs” at Uarbry, sold Hereford steers for 466 cents, they weighed 422kg and came back at $1969.
The Whillock Family of “Maxland” at Geurie, sold Angus steers for 474 cents, weighing 461kg to come back at $2187.
Matt & Rachel Adams of “St Louie” at Mendooran, sold Brown Swiss bullocks for 337 cents, weighing 590kg to return $1991.
And for The McConaughty Family of “Elstow” at Baradine, who sold heavy Charolais cows for 310 cents, weighing a massive 771kg to return $2390.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, with heavy weight lambs again being well supplied yet only limited numbers of ideal trade weights. A good selection of Merino lambs were on offer with all usual buyers in attendance.
Trade lambs looked to remain firm on last week’s rates to sell from $170 to $220 or average between 850 – 870 cents carcass weight. Trade Merino lambs sold from $146 to $205. Heavy weight lambs were $5 dearer, selling from $212 to $260, while the extra heavy lambs sold from $260 to $277. Heavy weight Merino lambs sold to a top of $232. Restocker lambs were $7 better this week and sold from $125 to $163 while the best pen of heavy hoggets sold to $251.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients -
Locally for Doug & Lorna Bambrick of “Moolakar” at Dubbo, who sold Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $208.
The White family of “Three Rivers” at Molong sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score trade weight condition for $216.
The Whillock Family of “Maxland” at Geurie sold heavy crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition, with an inch skin to the export orders for $260.
And for Andrew & Ellie Cosgrove at Warren, who sold trade weight crossbred lambs with a half inch skin, in a 3 score condition for $217.
Into the mutton pens now, and there was some outstanding heavy weight sheep on offer as well as most other grades in a dearer market.
Light weight ewes $60 - $130
Medium weight ewes $145 - $188
Heavy weight ewes $200 -$270
Light weight wethers $99 - $130
Medium weight wethers $141 - $183
Heavy weight wethers $190 - $250
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their clients -
Matthew Scott of “Gum Valley” at Warren, sold heavy Dorper hoggets in a 4 score condition for a sale topping $251.
And for Jon & Helen Matchett of “Budgery Station” at Hermidale, who sold crossbred wethers in a 4 score condition and a half inch skin for $245.

Reminder - LPA NVDs
From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.
A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.
New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.
As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
