Fat Cattle Report

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the

weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 1st week

of March 2021. Tallied numbers this week included –

2300 fat cattle

7,400 lambs and 2,500 mutton

Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a good quality yarding

with runs to suit both the feed orders and the processors.

There was a fair selection of grown steers and limited numbers

of grown heifers along with a better selection of cows.

Young kill cattle were 10c - 15c cheaper with prime vealers

selling to a top of 460c/kg. Prime steer yearlings brought 382c

- 450c while prime heifer yearlings made 374c - 442c/kg.

Feeder steers and heifers were 5c - 10c cheaper. Feeder steers

brought 362c - 467c/kg while the feeder heifers made 356c -

447c/kg. Young cattle to restock were 20c dearer with steer

weaners selling for 678c/kg while young restocker heifers sold

to 594c/kg. Grown steers and heifers were 10c/kg dearer, with

prime steers selling from 335c - 390c while prime grown

heifers brought 333c - 397c/kg. Cows 5c dearer, with the

medium 3 score cows bringing 278c - 295c/kg while the prime

heavy weights made 293c - 320c/kg finishing the day

averaging 308c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their

clients –

Firstly to Nyngan for John & Mary Burley off ‘Woodlands

Station’ who sold a nice line of Murray Grey heifers for

428c/kg weighing in at 287kg making $1230/head.

Over to Tooraweenah now for the McWhirter family off

‘Springfield’ who sold well bred heavy Angus/Santa cross

steers for 378c/kg weighing 652kg coming back at over

$2467.

Down to Yeoval for the Atkinson family off ‘Wonga’ who sold

well finished santa cows weighing 776kg making 315c/kg

coming back at $2448.

Lastly to the Geurie district for the Whillock family off

‘Maxland’, who sold a line of well bred Angus feeder steers

that made 466c/kg and they weighed 445kg coming back at

over $2076.

Just down the road for Matt & Kylie Whale off ‘Glenroy’, who

sold well presented heavy Angus cross feeder steers that

weighed 487kg and made 440c/kg making $2143.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good quality yarding

with a good selection of some outstanding well finished heavy

weight lambs and only the odd pen of trade weights. Trade

lambs were $8 - $11 dearer selling from $160 - $210 to

average around 860c- 890c/kg. Heavy weight lambs were $6 -

$10 dearer with the lambs 24kg - 30kg bringing $209 - $265

averaging about 860c - 885c/kg, and the over 30kgs $280 -

$286. Merino lambs were $5 dearer with trade weight lambs

selling from $160 - $175 while the heavier weights over 24kg

made up to $189.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their

clients –

Firstly to Bourke for Ben & Liarne Mannix off ‘Gumbooka’ who

sold fresh dropper suckers in a 3 & 4 score condition for $219.

To Dubbo now for David Hearn off ’San Diego’ who sold heavy

crossbred lambs with a big skin to the exporters for $200.

In the same district for the Campbell family, who sold well

bred crossbred lambs with a 1/2 inch skin in a 2 & 3 score

condition for $195.

Lastly to the Geurie district now for the Beard family, who sold

Merino hoggets with a inch skin for $202.

Now in the mutton pens, where it was a mixed yarding that

saw light and medium weight sheep $5 cheaper while the

heavy weights lost up to $15 in places. Merino ewes made

from $95 - $222, while crossbred ewes sold for $154 - $240.

Merino wethers sold from $140 - $210 while crossbred wethers

topped at $235. Most of the sheep averaged between 630c -

685c/kg.

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following mutton for their

clients -

On the same truck as the lambs for David Hearn who sold

crossbred ewes in a 4 score condition with a 2 inch skin to the

exporters for $239.

Also on the same truck as the lambs for the Beard family who

sold Merino ewes in a 4 score condition with an inch skin for

$190.

Just a quick reminder that Dubbo will be holding a store cattle

sale on Friday the 19th of March.

 

Reminder - LPA NVDs


From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.

A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.

New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.

As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
