Fat Cattle Report 

Good afternoon, this is Hugh Edwards taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the 2nd week of January 2022.  Tallied numbers this week included –

  800 fat cattle
4500 lambs
2000 mutton

 Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a good quality yarding on offer with a couple of large runs of Bos Indicus cattle alongside good lines of young cattle for the processors and feeders with a limited supply of cows penned and no grown steers or heifers.  

 Young kill cattle were firm with prime steer yearlings bringing 530 – 580 cents and the prime yearling heifers made 500 - 598c/kg.  Feeder steers were 10 cents cheaper, while the feeder heifers were 10 cents dearer, with feeder steers selling from 510 - 600c/kg, while the feeder heifers made 450 - 599c/kg.  Young restockers were firm selling to a top of 702c/kg for steers and 610c/kg for heifers.  Cows were 10 cents cheaper, with the medium 2 & 3 score cows selling from 320 - 366c/kg, while the prime heavy weights made 360 - 405c/kg to average around 388c/kg. 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –

To Baradine for the Fitzgerald family off “Carmel”, who sold large frame Angus and Angus cross cows for 399 cents, they weighed in at 646kg coming back at $2579.

And lastly to Geurie, for a local client who sold a nice line of well finished Angus cross feeder heifers that weighed 465kg bringing 572 cents and making $2663.

Fat Sheep & Lamb Report 

Into the lamb pens now, where it was a good quality yarding with a selection of both trade and heavy lambs throughout, but only limited number of Merino lambs and large percentage of hoggets.  Trade weight lambs were $10 - $12 cheaper with suckers selling for $165 - $200 averaging around 835 – 865 cents. Trade weight old lambs made $145 - $206. Heavy weight lambs were $5 - $10 cheaper, with old lambs over 24kgs selling from $200 - $256 to average between 780 - 835c/kg.  Merino’s were unchanged with trade weights making from $150 -$180.   

 

Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients - 

Firstly to Nyngan for Heath Boland off “Pepper Farm”, who sold Dorper lambs in a fresh 3 score condition for $204. 

Locally in the Dubbo district for Dave Campbell, who sold fresh crossbred lambs in a 2 & 3 score condition for $186.

To Wongarbon now for Mark & Trudy Altus off “Albion Hill”, who sold well bred Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition, to the domestic kill for $200.


Lastly to Euchareena for Brian Brazier off “Wombang”, who sold Merino wether hoggets in a 2 score condition for $158. 

Into the mutton pens now, where most grades were represented in a mixed yarding.  Light and medium weight sheep were $5 dearer while the heavier weights lost $5 - $10.  Merino ewes selling from $100 - $176 and the crossbred ewes made $155 - $196.  Merino wethers sold from $135 - $200.

 

Just a quick quote this week for the Scanlon family off “Sonnborra” at Quirindi, who sold well bred Merino wethers with an April skin, in a 2 & 3 score condition for $155.
