Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everybody, this is John Lindsay with a look at this week’s livestock markets out of Dubbo for the second week of March, 2021. Tallied numbers this week included –
1400 fat cattle
12000 lambs and
6000 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where there was a smaller number on offer with most categories represented with the exception of suitable lighter restocker cattle. The market in general was 5 to 10 cents cheaper for most categories on what is still a very strong market.
Vealer steers were in shorter supply and mainly to restockers, seeing sales between 410 and 529 cents. Vealer heifers also in short supply, with restocker drafts 460 to 590 cents and they were mainly on the lighter end around that late 200kg.
Yearling steers to feedlotters under 400kg 424 to 465 cents, with suitable plainer restocker drafts 474 to 536 cents. With heavy weights over 400kg to feed 370 to 466 cents, with suitable kill drafts in short supply 36 3 to 444 cents. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feedlotters in shorter supply 390 to 442 cents, with heavier drafts over 400kg 385 to 469 cents, with a handful of kill tyres seeing sales between 358 and 452 cents.
Into export sales, heavy feeder steers in short supply and seeing sales between 356 and 438 cents, with the top end being Angus drafts. With any bullocks this week mainly being mature aged seeing sales between 328 and 384 cents.
Into cow sales, light boner cows 230 to 270 cents, medium weight cows 240 to 282 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 288 and 305 and topping this week at 316 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Firstly, for Viv & Suze White of “Three Rivers” at Molong, who sold Hereford cows that weighted 780kg for 301 cents, and these prime cows came back at $2350.
Locally for Craig & Kerry Walters of “Plain Creek” at Wongarbon, who sold Angus steers to the heavy feeders that weighed 505kg, for 437 cents and these top steers returned $2220.
David Hearn of “San Diego” at Narromine, sold Angus steers to feedlotters that weighed 495kg for 460 cents and these top steers came back at $2290.
To Nyngan now for John & Mary Burley of “Woodlands Station”, who sold Brahman cross steers that weighed 300kg, for 386 cents and they came back at $1155.
Doug & Katrina Menzies of “Summerlea”, sold Angus feeder steers for 420 cents, they weighed 460kg and they came back at $1925.
While for some Charolais cross cows agisting at Nyngan, that weighed 575kg for 316 cents and these trim cows came back at $1815.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where it was an excellent yarding of lambs on what was a cheaper market of about $10 to $15, but bearing in mind we were coming off the back of an extremely strong market the week before.
Into crossbred sales firstly, with light trade weights $146 to $155 with suitable restocker drafts $130 to $161
Trade weights $153 to $170
Medium trade $148 to $180
Heavy trade $170 to $200
Light exports $185 to $215
With super heavies up to 30kg dressed $203 to $238 with this weeks top price being $269 for a pen of lambs estimated to weigh well over 30kg dressed.
Into Merino sales, light kill types $140 to $150
Trade weights $147 to $168
Light export $160 to $190
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
To Baradine for Denis Todd of “Wheatfields”, who sold heavy trade weight 2nd cross lambs, in a 3 score condition for $196.
The Finlay Family of “Kinross”, sold heavy trade weight Dorper lambs in a 3 score condition and they made $178.
Darren Beveridge of “Gleneve”, sold trade weight Dorper lambs and these tidy lambs made $153.
While for Steve & Kim Gough of “Keewong” at Coonamble, who sold unshorn Merino lambs to restockers and these tidy young lambs made $141.
To the mutton pens now, on what was also a good quality yarding with a very strong market and possible $2 to $5 cheaper – again on what is still a strong market.
Light boner ewes $114 to $122
Medium weights $120 to $170 for Merino’s or $134 to $154 for crossbreds
Export weight ewes $165 to $200 for crossbreds for $155 to $216 for Merino’s
With super heavies over 30kg dressed $195 to $225 for crossbreds, or $205 to $235 for Merino’s
Light weight wethers $120 to $132
Medium weights $145 to $170 and mainly Merino’s
With export weights $160 to $215 for Merino’s or $185 to $223 for mainly Dorper’s
With super heavies over 30kg dressed up to $243 for Merino’s or $204 for crossbreds.
Just a quick quote this week for Kel Baker of “Ercildoon” at Narromine, who sold export weight 1st cross ewes, with a ½ inch skin for $210.

From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of all NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.
A reminder to order NVDs now as delivery can take up to 6 weeks.
New NVD books can be ordered through the LPA service centre, using LPA log in details.
As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for LPA NVD books until 30 June 2021.
