Fat Cattle Report
Good morning, this is Shaun McHugh with the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of October. Tallied numbers this week included -
1345 fat cattle
19000 lambs and
3500 mutton.
Into the cattle pens firstly where another good yarding was on offer. Prime cattle in all sections were competed on by all the usual buyers in a dearer market.
Young cattle to the trade were 10 cents dearer and could have been more in places as vealer steers sold to 453c/kg and the heifers sold to 450c/kg. Prime steer yearlings sold from 380 to 458 cents, while the prime heifer yearlings sold from 360 to 441c/kg.
Feeder cattle lifted 6 cents, steers sold from 355 to 424c/kg and the heifer portion ranged from 354 to to 410c/kg. Weaners to the restockers were limited and dearer. Restockers paid up to 611c/kg for steers while the heifers reached 520c/kg.
Grown steers and heifers were 15 cents better this week with steers selling from 340 to 404c/kg and the heifers 310 to 392c/kg. Cows lifted again which saw heavy cows range from 290 to 313c/kg. The best heavy bull reached a top of 325c/kg.

Locally for Andrew O’Brien of “Glenhaven” who sold Hereford heifers for 380 cents, weighing 580kgs to return $2205.
The Hall Family of “Mount Marion” at Binnaway, sold 6 tooth Devon Heifers for 330 cents, weighing 651kg or $2150.
Troy Palmer of “Mianga” at Coolah, sold milk and 2 tooth Angus cross heifers for 392 cents, weighing 535kgs to come back at $2098.
David Hearn of “San Diego” at Narromine, sold Angus steers for 411 cents, they weighed 472kgs to come back at $1941.
The McWhirter family of “Springfield” at Tooraweenah, sold a wonderful run of heavy 6 tooth Angus cross bullocks for 374 cents to weigh 622kgs or $2330.
Peter Hewitt of “Hillview” at Tottenham, sold extra heavy Charolais cross cows for 312 cents, they weighed a massive 871kgs to return $2721.
And lastly for David & Therese Carter of “Wilgaree” at Nyngan, who sold Angus cross heifers for 370 cents, weighing 580kgs to return $2146.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now and didn’t we see a strong market. All categories were $10 to $25 better with presentation and freshness a key factor in price rises.
Suckers lifted $15 to range from $170 to $230. Trade weight old season lambs sold from $142 to $196, which is $10 better than last week. Heavy weight old season lambs had the biggest gains of up to $25 to range from $180 to $226 while the extra heavy weights sold to a top of $266. Merino lambs gained $14, as the trade weights made from $142 to $180 and the heavy weights making from $183 to $220 again presentation a factor. Hoggets reached a top of $220.

Locally for Rod Pilon of “Chloe” who sold crossbred lambs in a 3 score condition, in a 6 week skin for $201.
Paul & Carmel Quinn of “Karoo” sold crossbred lambs in 3 score condition to the domestic kill for $183.
Ross Yeo of “Lambar” sold extra heavy crossbred lambs in a 4 score condition to the exporters for $240.
The Whale family of “Glenroy” at Wellington, sold 2nd cross suckers in a fresh 3 score condition to the supermarkets for $175.
The Whillock family of “Maxland” at Geurie, sold fresh suckers in a 3 score condition to the supermarkets for $178.
Stan Ellis of “Pinevale” at Mogriguy, sold Merino lambs in a 4 score condition and a half inch skin for $190.
The Reardon family of “Clonard” at Warialda, sold extra heavy Merino lambs in a 4 score condition and a half inch skin to the exporters for $220.
For Kevin Bell of “Wallah” at Mendooran, who sold Charolais cross lambs in a very fresh, rock hard 3 score condition with a half in skin for $188.
Vicki Parker of “Gooyong Park” at Warren sold Dohne cross suckers for $193.
And lastly for The Cook family of “Glenidol” at Tottenham, who sold Merino lambs in a 3 score condition and half inch skin for $171.
Into the mutton pens now, where most grades were $15 dearer.
Light ewes sold from $110 - $134.
Medium weight ewes sold from $143 - $176.
Heavy weight ewes sold from $184 - $206.
Light weight wethers sold from $122 - $148.
Medium weight wethers sold from $153 - $180.
Heavy weight ewes sold from $184 - $210.

The Wood family of “Norwood” at Gulgong, sold crossbred ewes in a 3 score condition, well presented with a 6 week skin for $178.
The Elder family of “Woorndoo” at Nyngan, sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with a 1 ½ inch skin for $160.
And for The Betts family of “The Peak Station” at Cobar, who sold Merino ewes in a 3 score condition with a 6 week skin for $156.
