Fat Cattle Report
Good afternoon everyone, this is John Lindsay taking a look at the weekly livestock market reports out of Dubbo for the last week of November, 2021. Tallied numbers this week included –
2200 fat cattle
5800 lambs and
2700 mutton
Into the cattle pens firstly, where it was a smaller number mainly due to a rain affected week. Most categories were represented, with the market firm for most categories, with export cattle 5 to 10 cents cheaper and could have been a little more in places on what was still a strong market.
Vealer steers in short supply and mainly to restockers – 598 to 765 cents. Vealer heifers also to restockers – 556 to 606 cents. Yearling steers to feedlotters under 400kg – 520 to 598 cents, with plainer restocker drafts 566 to 704 cents. Heavier drafts over 400kg to feed – 420 to 590 cents, with a bit of a spread on quality this week. Yearling heifers under 400kg to processors – 466 to 560 cents, with feeder drafts 530 to 582 cents. With heavier drafts over 400kg mainly to feed 470 to 555 cents.
Into export sales, heavy feeder steers up to 500kg - 448 to 544 cents, with the top end being Angus drafts, with heavier drafts over 500kg - 465 to 530 cents. Bullocks were in short supply - 420 to 450 cents for the older drafts, mainly being 4 and 6 teeth, with younger drafts in shorter supply seeing sales up to 463 cents.
Boner cows - 346 to 368 cents, medium weight cows - 300 to 379 cents, with heavy high yielding cows seeing most sales between 366 to 398 cents and this week topping at 406 cents.
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following cattle for their clients –
Locally for Mark & Trudy Altus of “Albion Hills” at Wongarbon, who sold Angus steers to the heavy feeders for 520 cents, they weighed 505kg and they came back at $2620.
David Hearn of “San Diego” at Narromine, sold Angus steers to the feedlotters for 557 cents, they weighed 470kg and they came back at $2610.
At Trangie for The O’Neill Family of “Nellady”, who sold Hereford steers to the feedlots for 472 cents, they weighed 565kg and they came back at $2660.
At Nyngan now for John & Mary Burley of “Woodlands Station”, who sold fresh, Angus steer calves off the cows that weighed 310kg, they made 662 cents and they came back at $2060.
Gary & Angela White of “Yarra”, sold Hereford cross heifers to the trade butchers that weighed 490kg for 435 cents and these tidy heifers made $2140.
The Dunn Family of “Bundong” at Coolabah, sold fresh Brahman cross steer calves that weighed 275kg for 550 cents and these fresh calves came back at $1500.
At Tooraweenah for The McWhirter Family of “Springfield”, who sold Angus bullocks with their 6 teeth, that weighed 695kg for 440 cents and they came back at $3060.
And lastly at Coonamble for James & Michelle Hegarty, who sold Shorthorn cross cows for 407 cents, they weighed 735kg and these top cows came back at $3000.
Fat Sheep & Lamb Report
Into the lamb pens now, where like the cattle weekend rain did affect numbers. The market in general was firm to $10 dearer for most categories, given the short supply, however light weight Merino lambs just managing to stay firm – however still very good.
Into young lambs or suckers firstly, with restocker drafts up to 16kg dressed $140 to $167
Light trade weights $200 to $215
Trade weights in short supply $226 to $245
With heavy exports over 26kg dressed $279 to $301 and there wasn’t many of them.
Into older crossbred sales, light trade $170 to $225
Medium trade $225 to $252
Export weights $256 to $265 and this week topping at $288
Into Merino sales, light kill types up to 18kg dressed $136 to $146
Light trade $153 to $175
Heavy trade $160 to $189
With export weights $176 to $230
Carter Lindsay & Weber sold the following lambs for their clients –
Locally for the Whale Family of “Glenroy” at Wellington, who sold heavy trade weight 2nd cross lambs, with a 6 week skin, in a 3 score condition for $250.
Dave Campbell sold light trade weight 1st cross suckers – very tidy and unshorn and they made $211.
And lastly for Greg Willmot & Donna Alderton, who sold export weight Australian White lambs – well rounded and fresh and they made $270.
Into the mutton pens now and like the lambs it was a smaller yarding, where the market did respond being $15 to $20 dearer on what was a solid market.
Boner ewes $90 to $124
Medium weight Merino ewes $132 to $187, with the crossbred portion $130 to $175
Export weight crossbred ewes made up to $200, while the Merino portion $185 to $207
Medium weight wethers and mainly all Merino’s made up to $152
With export weights $189 to $222 for Merino’s or $176 to $224 for crossbreds.
